MATCHDAY GUIDE | Revs at Columbus Crew (October 12, 2024) Jeff Lemieux posted: Tuesday, Oct 8, 2024, 02:00 PM Revs will be without 4 starters (possibly 5, depending on Gil's injury status). It sounds like Will Sands might be ready to return. Four Revolution players earn national team call-ups for October revolutionsoccer.net Monday, Oct 7, 2024, 11:00 AM Columbus will be short-handed as well: Mo Farsi (D, Algeria) Taha Habroune (M, USA U-20) Nicholas Hagen (GK, Guatemala) Cucho Hernández (F, Colombia) Patrick Schulte (GK, USA)
What should we hope for in these final, post-elimination, games? Although I know I’ll get a near-religous response about the maximum wrongitude of the idea, some real @$$ whippings might get ownership’s attention to the fact that they’ve lost the plot again on their overall first team management, top to bottom…
I'm all in favor of @sswhippings, but ownership is too preoccupied with their other 1-4 team. The one thing I am hoping for is that we might be able to keep our Shield record safe for another year, but I can't really see that happening. If we can't beat teams like DC, Montreal and St. Louis at home, how are we going to stop Miami from steamrolling us?
I am not familiar with the advanced stats sources, but is anything available that shows Vrioni's production with and without Gil on the field? Am I misremembering that his hot streak was after Gil's summer injury and ended when Gil returned from said injury?
Gil out... Well we're eliminated so here's a chance to let some youngster like Esmir run the show... Oh, oops, guess not.
This has the potential to be one of those 5-0 non-compete matches. Sad to say I'm almost hoping for that if it could hasten Porter's departure.
Gil missed six games from June 29th to July 20th. Vrioni's hot streak (6 goals in 6 games) began June 15th, so he had 3 goals with Carles, and 3 without. Vrioni's streak ended when he got hurt (July 13th). They both returned Aug 24th (@ MON). Vrioni scored in that game (off the bench, after it was already 3-0), but has not scored since.
Preview | Revs face test of character on the road against Columbus Crew on Saturday night Nick Boonstra posted: Friday, Oct 11, 2024, 02:06 PM
Clearly he was. Nice goal. Not even sure why I turned this game on. They haven't shown up all year, so why should I?
I think the question to ask about players is: Who can get interest elsewhere? If I was on this team, I’d be looking for my way out. Not only are the REVS a perennially bad and poorly coached team. But they aren’t even a bad team where a good player can shine. I’d get out if I could.
The BAD: The Revs didn't belong on the same field as Columbus, that was pathetic! Oh, and Borrero your teammates were in the white jerseys. The Good: The US men looked a little better.
I watched the USMNT instead and they did look a little better and more motivated under Poch - though Turner had to come up big or it could easily have been a 1-1 draw. As for this team....it sounds like I missed absolutely nothing.
Two shots, zero on goal, in the second half. I can understand giving up more goals when you are pressing everyone forward to try and score and get back into the game, but doing that and still being unable to generate any offense? Unacceptable. I got online this morning and checked to see if Porter had been fired yet, knowing full well it ain't gonna happen. Tough year to be a New England fan (Revs and Pats both ranked 2nd from the bottom in their leagues).
Oh, and that is the fourth hat trick the Revs have given up this season. Something tells me it won't be the last. Matan had 1 goal on the season, and 2 goals in 4 years with the Crew, prior to his hat trick.
With one common thread...A good debate would be which team is more poorly coached right now. The Pats are getting worse each week.
At least they have the allure of the possibility of what could be if Drake Maye turns into something in the long run. We have to hope that Onalfo & Porter can somehow get better at their jobs...not much to hang a hat on.
