I have such a bad taste in my mouth, it's hard to get excited about this game... MATCHDAY GUIDE | Revs at Colorado Rapids (September 16, 2023) Jeff Lemieux posted: Monday, Sep 11, 2023, 04:23 PM
Two more road games prior to the next home game. This weekend will say a lot about what the players want. If they go out and fight, I'll have more excitement for the next home game. If they quit ... well, there's the season.
The real unfortunate thing is that the next 2, and the past 2 games are/were all winnable games. Not that I was expecting 12 points but would 9 or 10 be out of the question? All of these teams are either out of the playoffs or barely in, and well below us in the standings. Good teams will beat the bad teams. Mediocre teams underperform against inferior opponents, even if they can sometimes rise to the occasion against a good team
I will be so disappointed in the players if they quit and that is mainly because I have seen the core of this group show a ton of resilience over the last four years. There has been a lot of upheaval in that time period (Friedel to Arena, Pandemic, Bubble, Transfers and Turnover), and they have handled it all most of the time. My expectation is that this will galvanize the players to fight for each other, rather than tear them apart.
The thing that has left a bad taste for me is the last second collapses - and the only way to fix that is to get back out there and win the next freakin' game. So, I'm looking forward to it.
Cancels each other out, I guess. . It might be fun to watch two teams battle for each other's respective team.
Since the Revs have had 2 new coach announcements in the last week, they get the advantage on the new-coach-bump, 2 to 1...

I guess we're not going to find out yet if Peay is going to continue RW's decision to play Polster at RB. Bou is back practicing with the team - probably not fit for games yet. Jones is back with the team. Buck should be back, haven't heard if he is. Vaclik is now eligible, but probably won't arrive in time to travel with the team. Farrell? I still haven't heard what happened in Minnesota (there was a rumor that he asked to be left out - presumably caught wind of the Arena resignation before the rest of the team). ---- Supposedly Peay is popular with the team and with all the bottled up frustration, I expect them to play with some fury. We'll see.

Guessing we see something like this if Farrell is available. McNamara and or Buck could force someone to the bench ......................Edwards J Jones, Farrell, Romney, Spaulding ..........Kay..................Harkes N.Gil............C.Gil............Chancaly ................Vrioni
Twellman giving me hope for Saturday, and the rest of the season. I don’t see an implosion fwiw. The group of players with #NERevs are strong and now committed to making the season about them and not the coaches or front office. It’s not going to be easy starting in Colorado but I don’t see an implosion. https://t.co/Ex7HSyXQXl— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) September 14, 2023
Except he wasn't on the injury report. Possibly something came up after the report was sent out ...? In his interview today, he sounded gung ho to get out there next game.
Revs magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 8. A win in Commerce City combined with losses by CHI (at MON) and CLT (vs DCU) would reduce that number to 2.
I stand corrected. According to this (since teams below the line play each other head to head), the Revs can clinch: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/who-can-clinch-playoffs-on-saturday-matchday-32 DCU is currently above the line, but CLT has 2 games in hand on DCU. So sorting by Max points attainable, CLT is above the line.
The Rapids last win was July 8th vs DAL. COL is 1W-4D-13L in their last 18 (all comps). They are 1W-4D-1L at home in last 6. All 4 draws were 0-0. The Gil to Gil goal in Minnesota was the first time in his MLS career Capi has scored off a cross. https://www.revolutionsoccer.net/competitions/mls-regular-season/2023/matches/colvsne-09-16-2023/
New manager bump vs new manager bump. We'll see what happens. What I like about Peay is the development we've seen with players at revs 2. They've had a good season this year.
The bumps may cancel out and then the difference is that we have a better roster and they have the altitude. And, I think if there had just been some more rational game management decisions from the bench, we'd have won the last 2 games. So, hopefully we'll see that in this game.

As disappointing as the last two games have been there is NO excuse to not take points in Colorado. Austin is objectively mediocre, MN had poor home form, but Colorado is far and away the worst team in the league. Altitude or not, the revs NEED to take 3 points (ideally, comfortably by 2 goals or more) from their trip this weekend. If they don't win, I will have serious concerns with this team's late game mindset and leadership.
Just off the top of my head, they've lost 5 points this year that they should have had. The equalizing goal vs the Red Bulls that was disallowed, and the last 2 games where they should have walked away with all 3 points.
April 15, Sean Zawadski scores 90+8' to steal a point for CLB (2 pts dropped) May 31, Miguel Berry scores a go-ahead goal 87' for ATL (Gil rescues the point with a 90+2' goal) Aug 26, George Campbell steals a win with a 86' goal for MON (1 pt dropped) There has been way too much white-knuckle defending this year, and it shows.
