This was the first game in this recent run where Edwards looked a little over his head. There was some indecision in one cross that went through his box, another ball that went right through his hands and a few moments looking panicky in the area - including one ball that he booted upfield that he seemingly could have just scooped up.
Overall though I've been pretty happy with Edwards' distribution. To me he's about equal to Petro in that department. I do think he looked a little panicky at times, but overall did fine. There was nothing he could do on the goal. That was a very well placed shot.
Right, I thought Esmir did a tremendous job getting out of trouble and getting the ball to Gil. Then when Gil found space and passed the ball to 'Sweat in even more open space' I was already starting to think 'phew, let's kill some time with possession...(DOH! out of bounds"
I want to subscribe to your optimism, but I don't even think their form has been good. They've played what, like four games since the long break, and there were at least two (Montreal and Minnesota) where they got absolutely owned in shots, corners, and possession.
If the timing of these decisions about Bruce wasn't known by the players going into the game, if they didn't know Williams was part of the complaint ... you may be right. I think this time is going to shred the locker room unless leaders like Gil step up. But will the team play for Williams knowing what they know now?
I also thought that Chancalay's defense was pretty atrocious - I really expected to see Ema come in for him. And I think that goes to some criticism of Williams - that he put players in unfamiliar roles/positions when trying to get back some control of the game. Why not go with the player who is most familiar with Chancalay's position and was good enough to start for a significant string of games? Instead, he goes to Spaulding, which move Jones to the opposite wing and plays Sweat in a new position (with the Revs, at least) while the whole team is under pressure. I also prefer Rennicks over Wood, when bringing in a late forward whose primary role is to pressure the opposing defense and fight and win loose balls. Neither Vrioni nor Wood has been particularly good at that role. And, where was Farrell? He wasn't on the injury report and wasn't on the gameday roster.
Doesn't that make him a healthy scratch, not selected by the manger to make it to gameday? Also, it seemed like a few players were wearing the wrong cleats, especially Esmir who looked like he was on skates
Well, according to the Athletic article, Williams is part of the reason that Arena is gone. They didn't know that before. I doubt they even knew that Williams would be essentially fired after this season, because I can see that just being handled in the front office. And after three games of terrible game management, they know his on-field decisions aren't helping either.
But didn't the Globe writer say that RW did not file the complaint? I'm not arguing your point, I'm just wondering what the players do or don't know. I also wonder if they share your opinion that RW's game management has been terrible.
My post that you responded to was prior to FDA's tweet, and as much as I personally know and really like Frank (no I'm not going to text him to find out more because that wouldn't be right) ... I'm going with the 8 sources part. And obviously, I have no idea what the players might think of his in-game tactics, but as has been noted here after each of the last three games (where we've now dropped 5 points combined), the second half tactics/subs have left A LOT to be desired.
