Get your popcorn ready! Revs vs Revs West, as Bruce Arena returns for the first time since his mutual parting of ways. SJE has to host Messi and friends on Wednesday night before flying across country, while the Revs are one of 4 teams with a bye on Wednesday night (CHI, VAN and DAL the others). We never got an explanation nor any regrets about what transpired from the Bruce. And I'm sure he'll come in here all smug looking for his revenge. All the ex Revs players will be looking for something to prove as well so we definitely need to be on our toes.
Yeah, it's easier with a Johnny Damon or Jacoby Ellsubry situation where you just want to "BOO" them upon their return, but with Bruce it's more of a "We still love ya, just NOT today"
Yeah, it's more booing management or whoever made the final decision to get rid of him and never give a reason.
Well, technically true, but considering he was suspended for a month and the Revs kicked the can down the road and said it was a "league matter," I suspect they told him he could "resign" if he wanted to, but either way he was done. That was when Van Der Bergh and Shalrie also left (on their own) We may never know what really happened, but he seems like a very competitive guy, and would be very unlikely to leave on his own, when his team had a realistic chance at winning a championship.
Agreed, this situation had all the signs of them giving him the opportunity to resign but let it be known that 'firing' was the next likely outcome.
I wonder how many of the former Revs will actually get some game action. I think in last weeks' game both Romney and D.Jones played. I wonder if he gets Harkes or Buck some minutes this week as they'd be extra motivated against their former club (not that they would recognize many from the team, haha).
Harkes started and scored last night in the 3-3 draw with Miami. Buck was not on the game day roster. Kaye subbed on for Harkes in the 79'. Cristian Arango scored in the 3' (to make it 1-1!) but came off injured in the 31'.
Until I hear otherwise, I'll remain convinced it was a failed power play/coup attempt by Richie Williams that basically backfired on everyone. If there was truly institutional rot because of Bruce, I doubt Van Der Bergh and Shalrie would have left in protest, and there would have been someone on staff or a current/former player who would have spoken out in the aftermath.
Harkes, Jones, and Romney are all 1st choice 11 for SJ. Kaye and Buck might see time off the bench. Lima and EEJ unlikely to feature
Weird stat of the day: The Revs have never trailed at halftime in any game this season. The first 6 games, and 8 of the 11, were all tied at the half.

A couple of random thoughts about the game: Pretty boring game, tough to get excited about anything that happened in the game. The Revs were lucky that Pellegrino tried to hit that shot with his left foot. It would have been an easy pass to the back of the net if he used his right foot. And finally, get off my lawn! As an old fart I'm getting really tired with all the current sports. The diving and flopping is out of control. I despise it even on my teams. Last night I was hollering at the TV to yellow card Ganago. He dove all over the field like it was an Olympic qualification.
In a year where I think the effing has generally been pretty good, just what the ******** was that? Absolutely wretched. The capper was the offside call on ganago's goal, which even the play by play team can believe wasn't overturned. That's 2 points taken from us by PRO
The Revs struggled to maintain possession, and the Quakes couldn't hit the broadside a barn. Oh, and Ganago sure looked on side.
A month ago, I would have been happy with a zero-zero result in this game. But given the lineup Bruce threw out there (resting 9 starters), this can't be anything but a disappointment. If Pelligrino could shoot, it would have been even worse (Arango would have buried 2 of those easily). Once again, offense was non-existent (outside of Ganago's "offside" goal). Only 2 shots on goal, a 40 yarder from Gil straight to Edwards, and a near-post chip that Edwards also handled easily. Also agree with @BERich that Ganago needs to stop flopping and play. This is one of those games that calls for one of @ToMhIlL 's Steve Nicol impressions: "You can blame the ref if you like..."
