All signs are pointing to this game not happening and apparently, the strike could be longer than previously thought. Losing this weekend should be the least of a fan's worry. I'm now convinced the players will have the ability to survive a long strike.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) March 3, 2015 @BRUBromley I need to get a second source before I go into detail, but I have good info that suggests the strike fund will get outside help.— Duane Rollins (@24thminute) March 3, 2015

The first ever live Galaxy match I went to, was the 1997 home opener, which was “lost” in the shoot-out*. On one hand it colored my opinion on Galaxy home openers being underwhelming, on the other 2014: 1-0 loss to RSL 2013: 3-1 loss to RSL 2011: 1-1 draw to New England 2009: 2-2 draw to DC 2007: 2-1 loss to Dallas 2006: 1-0 loss to New England 2001: 3-2 loss to San Jose 1997: 1-0 “loss” or 0-0 draw to DC So I’m not holding my breath. * At some point we’ll need to explain what the “shoot out” was.
Maybe it's only me, and an excessive reaction to a blah offseason, but I don't recall ever being LESS excited about a home opener.
A prolonged strike will be very disappointing but from a strictly performance point of view the fewer games played before SG's July arrival the better. Of course I still strongly prefer no strike - I would much rather watch a struggling LAG than no LAG.
I remember reading somewhere that the players had a strike fund in range of 2-3 million. ASN indicated that it was in the range of 4-5 million http://americansoccernow.com/articles/should-mls-players-skip-the-strike-and-sue-instead Assuming the higher number, that is enough to pay 480 players (essentially everyone), 10K. That may not be a lot but for the lowest players that's around 25% of their annual salary. Or enough to fully fund a 9-10 game strike. If the players get access to additional funds or the players association excludes players making over $200K, it could go even further. My personal fear isn't cancelled games, its the potential for the league to use strike breakers (although I am sure we would have heard about this). Can you imagine the league telling you that the Galaxy vs San Jose game will actually be played by two equivalents of pub teams.
Please note, I am not suggesting that this would happen, but didn't in the NASL days, some franchises essentially imported English teams and then add an American player or two?
The rumor of the day is that players unions from other sports are actively backing the MLS Players union in terms of funds...
Good point. Word on the street is that Don Ovan is a "little bit behind" his teammates... (It never gets old. Never!)
Doom and gloom all over Twitter regarding the possibility of a strike. This is getting really serious. We'll know by tomorrow if the game happens because Chicago needs to catch a flight.
So, on the off-chance we have a game, is there an injury report yet? We know Buddle has been out with an injury. What about AJDLG? Did he play any of our preseason games at all? If he can't go, then do we start Dunivant on the left and Rogers on the right, or Rogers on the left and Gargan on the right? And who gets first shot at left mid? Do we see? -----------Zardes-----Keane BJIV-----------------------------Ishi ---------Juninho---Husidic Rogers---Leo----Gonzilla--Gargan ---------------Penedo Or could we see-- -----------Gordon-----Keane Zardes----------------------------Ishi ---------Juninho---Husidic Rogers---Leo----Gonzilla--Gargan ---------------Penedo Or is the backline --- Duni--Leo--Gonzilla--Rogers Or do we even see a game, period. So many questions to be answered!
Is everyone sold on Leonardo? Personally, I'm waiting for Meyer to take over the spot (I recall him doing well when played) but Bruce seems hell-bent on keeping Leonardo as the starter. Wonder how many points we'll drop due to Leo making silly mistakes.
