I slightly disagree and think that the second option is the more likely one (and preferred IMO). We've actually seen Lletget drop into center mid this season, and did a good job, so there's no reason he can't do it to start the game. Yes he missed last game but I'm sure he's fully fit to start now. I'd much rather continue to bring Larentowicz off the bench rather than start him, until he's fully fit and has better chemistry with the team. So if Gerrard can't go, I really hope we see Lletget in the middle. Given time, I believe he can thrive there...
I'm also very interested in what can Seba do in this position, but I won't blame Bruce if he stays conservative and doesn't try a new formation in a away game like this.
So Rowe, Kennedy, Rogers, AJ, Steres, Van Damme, Cole, Baggio, Garcia, Lletget, Magee, Boateng, BJ4, Zardes, Gio and Villarreal made the trip to KC. I'm not sure about Larentowicz, maybe it's his head at the 1:17 mark. So a priori no Keane, no Gerrard, no Gordon, no Leonardo, and obviously no De Jong. That's a little bit weird because I counted only 16 players in the video (17 if that's really Larentowicz), so who's gonna be the 18th man (if there's one)? Diop, Sorto, Romney, Mendiola and Lassiter played with G2 yesterday so they won't feature. And according to Kevin Baxter :

It's not a very defensive midfield and AJ is the better defender. I don't think it's so much the dog house as using the right player given the other 9 players on the pitch.

Maybe so. Although AJ cost them a goal last week and was very mediocre. It could be the team has won the last two and does not want to change the mix more than needed while they are winning. Going to be a tough one.
