JDS I’d like to keep. And Seb. Ibrahimovic is his own brand, he’s never felt like a G to me. Let him go. Keep Pavon. And the kids I guess. Dump the rest.
I'm pretty sure they do review every major play. The VAR apparently didn't see an obvious error in the ref's call.
The last 20-25 minutes of that game is the single worst example of officiating I have ever seen during a professional soccer match.
POOL REPORTER QUESTIONS FROM COL VS LA TO THE REFEREE:Big thanks to @LWOSMattPollard for taking my questions and combining them.#COLvLA #MLS pic.twitter.com/t2UaHRkAyR— Josh Guesman (@jguesman) September 12, 2019 So ref faced the reporters instead of written report but still his reasoning
Damn Feltcher for hitting that poor Colorado player's foot with his head a good 5 feet off the ground....
Not too surprised, to be honest. By halftime, I thought we would lose and fast-forwarded to the end but boy I didn't think we'd find a way to lose so soul-crushingly. I mean, we got screwed, but we set ourselves up to be screwed like so many times this season. We're just not a good team. We don't really play good football. We hoof it to Pavon and Zlatan and hope they can make magic, only it's very clear that Zlatan has fewer and fewer moments of magic and has to choose them very wisely. Between those moments, we're awful to watch.
Good on the ref for doing this. I still think his decisions on these plays were piss poor. Really, really poor.
“Reasoning”? I’ve never heard a ref say “it’s the las bit of the game”. Good thing to know rules don’t apply in the last bit of the game. Also it’s OK to kick a guy in the face as long as you are trying to clear the ball. Actually the reasoning on the gift PK was worse. Trip? It’s obvious the only contact is Cuello’s arm and then mustache pulls up the landing gear. I honestly thought he was going to get a yellow for simulation.
I don't think VAR works that way. My understanding is VAR can tell the ref to review something and suggest an issue, but ultimately its up to,the ref to decide whether to reverse himself. I have heard so many explanations of how VAR is supposed to,wrk that I could be dead wrong, but that's what I understand the situation to be.
At this point, I've lost all belief in the 2019 Galaxy. I just kind of want this season to be over with so we can move on. Alessandrini will likely be let go so we can free up a DP spot, though it will go to Pavon undoubtedly. Don't get me wrong, I love Ale and his heart and work, but the poor guy is incapable of staying on the field, and we just can't spend limited resources on him anymore. Ibra is probably gone, freeing up another DP spot. Skjelvig will be gone. I don't know what the 2020 iteration of the Galaxy will look like, but hope springing eternal, I trust it will be better than this team- which looks on paper like it OUGHT to be a contender- but obviously isn't.
That was some good rant, by the way. If we're losing, it's a least nice to be able to commiserate with others that feel the same way.
https://streamable.com/l0ygh This angle seems to suggest Gonzalez did foul the player on the pk given. Another craptastic game from Giancarlo.
This is about where I am. A playoff appearance will be a bonus at this point. Next year will be the real GBS version of the Galaxy. I am ready to hit the fast forward button on this season.
It definitely looks like he clips his ankles. I’ve watched it a number of times and can’t decide if he was already falling before the clip based on the movement of his ankle. Oh well. Last night just wasn’t meant to be for us.
It does seem like there might be contact. Unfortunately the clip doesn’t keep playing to see how the attacker respnods to the contact. The thing that looked suspicious to me when I saw it last night was that he just stops running. Before the Galaxy game they gave some stat that Gonzales hadn’t featured in a Galaxy win since July 19.
The VAR in the booth reviews every major decision. If he sees what he feels is a clear and obvious error he signals the CR through the earpiece that he should review it. I believe under the LOTG the CR can choose not to at that point, but I also believe PRO has instructed the refs that unless its a factual thing (VAR says, "I think you missed X" and the CR says "No, I saw it and took it into account in my call") they need to follow the VAR's recommendation and go over to the monitors to review it. Once there the CR then makes the final judgement of if the original call should be overturned or not. Without judging the "correctness" of any of the calls last night we saw pretty much all 3 scenarios in action. On the Colorado PK the VAR reviewed it and didn't see a clear and obvious error that needed review. On the red card the VAR reviewed it, saw a clear and obvious error, the CR watched the replay, and changed his call. On the LA non-PK the VAR reviewed it, saw a clear and obvious error, the CR watched the replay, disagreed, and didn't overturn his call. All of these are the way VAR is supposed to work. If any of the calls were still incorrect it wasn't due to VAR, it was due to the judgement of either the VAR official or the CR. (and to be up front I haven't looked at any replays. I was on the concourse above the goal Colorado was attacking in the second half. From there in real-time it looked like a PK and red and the non-PK was at he far end of the field so I didn't have a good view)
