Nobody else started it so I will. Kickof at 4pm on Altitude if you can't make it to the Dick. Current NWS forecast: Scheduled officiating crew:
I think the Rapids will come out strong. Particularly if there is snow, although we have so many new players that we may not get much of a bump due to snow. I am going to predict a 2-2 game, with the Rapids having the lead for stretches of the game, but the defense not able to hold. (if there is significant snow, then the score will be lower). I also predict multiple "Fuskie" jokes aimed at Jason, a fair amount of beer consumption and enjoyment at being back at a live game. Rod.
Pac-12 champs in football and men's basketball. I can handle your jealousy. I also think a draw is likely. With Wynne and Sjoberg our likely CB starters I don't see us keeping Portland off the board, but I think we can actually score goals now.
I dunno...I think Kofi Opare (who reportedly has been training with the team all preason) may make an Anthony Hudson Special Appearance
#Rapids96 injury updates for #COLvPOR this weekend:- Smith questionable- Ford out- Vines back in training— Burgundy Wave (@Burgundywave) February 27, 2019 There have been a couple different things going around about Tommy Smith and an injury. I've confirmed that he is questionable for this weekend with a knee injury. #Rapids96— Burgundy Wave (@Burgundywave) February 27, 2019
This Friday, we’ll be kicking off the @ColoradoRapids 2019 season C38 style at @CelticonMarket at 6pm! #WeAreC38 #Rapids96 pic.twitter.com/yMX4M1oj6H— Centennial 38 (@C38sg) February 26, 2019
Have fun guys. Per usual, my first game won't be till April. I have no idea and little data to make a prediction, so I'm saying 2-2 too.
They'll sell/distribute most if not all the tickets, which will be the announced number. How many show up in sub-freezing temps though...
Watched the 30 minute preseason promotion on Altitude last night, probably a pretty meaningless gauge of anything but really didn't move the needle plus or minus for me any more than the new vanilla jersey. I already knew most/all of what they covered from here so maybe less bounce due to that. And in fairness it was a day with a lot of news 'saturation' anyway. Highlight for me (mild lol) was Balboa saying without a hint of irony that he likes the new white jersey but doesn't like that almost everyone else has one too. Meanwhile Clorox Corp. laughs all the way to the bank.
Updated injury report: https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2019/02/27/colorado-rapids-injury-report-february-27-2019 Looks like my humorous idea of Opare making a Hudson Special Appearance is out of the question
6 defenders plus Nicholson (who played some D in preseason) on the report, not good. Rosenberry - Sjoberg - whichever body is healthiest - Serna on Saturday I guess.
Yeah, between this and the weather, I am not expecting much out of this game. Debating on trying to watch it on TV or not.
Based on the injury report, Colorado only has TWO non-injured defenders heading into Week 1. They’ll likely have to start a couple questionables or pull someone from a different position against Portland. #RCTID #Rapids96 pic.twitter.com/WtI3R8HfrJ— Isaac Harris (@isaacfharris) February 28, 2019
Let Washington have its football and basketball and academics. Oregon will always be first in gentlemanly club life.
With the nasty weather and cold temps do you even risk throwing out a guy that is questionable with a muscle injury like Vines? I can't see Wynee or Wilson (assuming here's here tomorrow) playing a part in Saturday's match. Portland starts out the season with 12 straight away matches due to reconstruction on their stadium. I'm curious to see how they manage minutes right off the bat. I haven't seen an injury report of them yet.
I think Bassett plays the 6, not sure if Feilhaber or Mezquida plays the 10. All 4 of those (including Acosta) will be the midfield starters though.
Agreed. With Price being out, it was a guess who could/would man the base of the diamond and how that effected the other three positionally. Feilhaber played that role previously under Bradley and Vermes albeit in spurts and/or in a pinch. Without a true 6 or 10 they are all fairly interchangeable with the exception being Mezquida. It will be interesting to see how that midfield shakes out over a course of 90 minutes.
I would think you would want a Vet of some type in front (6) of this make shift Defender line. This game could get very ugly.
If both Tommy Smith and Jack Price have their questionable tag move to "out", then I think Feilhaber moves into the 6 role with Bassett/Boateng out wide. Heck, we could just see the following. I know it's crazy, but it's a possibility with our current headcoach: With Serna, Boateng, and Blomberg all subbed in
