The thread to discuss all things World Cup for all the teams/games/news outside of the USMNT. Also help TrickHog figure out which country he should cheer for most other than the good ol' USofA.
as I'm of Mexican descent and finding out I have Scottish heritage as well, its Mexico and Scotland for me and I'm sure as the tournament goes on, an underdog pops up and I'll root for them, since the other two clubs I have a connection with, will probably be bounced by then. I'm also always intrigued on how England fares good or bad
I always root for the underdogs when I don't have an obvious favorite and I really enjoy watching England suffer, but maybe this is there year? Nahhh!
My ancestors did not qualify for the Cup. So my international allegience is still up for sale for this year's cup.
I'm sure a couple of Island nations would appreciate your support, since you have that Island to Island connection
Turkiye!! The Crescent Stars! Haven’t been since 2002 where they played in the semis (this was a good World Cup for Berks), did amazing in the 2008 Euros.
Me too, there are only so-called "hospitality" packs out there now on FIFA, but hope is they will start dumping tix closer to the game if SoFi is not sold out.
I thought this was an interesting breakdown, surprised Bundesliga is number 2, MLS has a nice showing and I believe the only reason Saudi Pro League is so high is because Saudi Arabia and Jordan made the World Cup, I tried to find a full breakdown by league but I failed at finding one as I was curious where LigaMX stacked up
You might wonder why I was cheering for France? It’s because I was making a joke but got my countries mixed up. What I meant to say was - “Viva Italia!” “Forza Azzurri!”
and we are off and running with the World Cup, watching Brian Gutierrez play for Mexico makes me wonder what occurred behind the scenes to make him switch.
The amount of red cards produced in the game has me worried for certain US players who have shown a propensity for getting sucked into extra-curriculars over the past several years. To be sure I thought all 3 cards were warranted but if this game is anything to go on, the refs will be producing reds quickly and decisively. Perhaps the logic would be when in doubt, show red which can then be reviewed by VAR on overturned if warranted.
I thought first 2 were obvious reds. Third one was a bit harsh judgment call Many refs would have gone with yellow.
I kind of feel at that point the referee was probably thinking game is over let me go with red so it looks like an evenly called match, not saying it was officiated incorrectly but some people think about optics, especially in a society were everything is recorded and scrutinized ad nauseam
I thought the 2nd was a yellow at most. But once he gave those two reds he had to give the third one as a Red as well.
Galaxy connections at the World Cup! Watched Zlatan, Chichirito and Lalas on analysis/commentary. Huong Mung Bo coaching South Korea tonight. Any others?
I didn't watch every minute - did I miss our guy? Really only saw some of Mexico game due to distractions, and watched the first half of South Korea.
