Directly off Riqui's twitter feed, it started before the season started Sacha was downplaying our chances are Riqui took it personally? I'm not sure.
But the tweets directly between them have been amusing.

I know I’m beating a dead horse calling this a tinker toy tournament so apologies, but being the “away” team in your home stadium playing a game that doesn’t affect the “away” team’s progress to the next round nor the strength of their opponent is really pretty funny.

I don't mind it because they're doing it based on last year's regular season. We should pay a seeding price for being sooooo shitty last year. Next year we get rewarded.

Of course, with the Mexican clubs not hosting any games it is in fact pretty silly. It would be better if games were played in Mexico but that would get in the way of the main incentive for the Mexican teams which is bringing home American $$$ and expanding their brands up in the USA.

Yeah - the higher seed is the home team in all the games, but all the Mexican teams have to play in the USA, because the whole point of the tournament is to get $$$ from Liga MX fans who live here.

FYI - Chivas can't pass us if it goes to PKs, even if they win the PK. Chivas only wins the group if they beat us in regulation. The PKs will only matter for the second place battle between Chivas and SJ.

I don't know where I got the idea some of these games were going to be played in Mexico. (And why didn't you guys correct me?) I know they were talking about doing that after MLS gave LigaMx such a beat down last season. Nothing came of that, huh?
I understand the $ issue but if the Mexican league again looks bad in the tourney the long-term PR cost might not be worth the quick cash.

I really thought the MFL teams would be fired up this year but it’s been the exact opposite. Many of the mfl teams I’ve seen have looked like they’re barely going through the motions.

Footmob apparently did have scores up (whoscored just had the timeline but no ratings)
    Yamane takes the crown there

Well, Fagendez got to have the best goal of the tourney so far for about 24 hours. Make sure to watch the RSL v Atlas highlights. Even Zlatan would be impressed by the highlight goal in that game… absolutely amazing strike.

The game winner less than a minute after he comes in. Even Berry can't beat that with a stick.

And it’s a direct result of Liga MX complaining last year about their travel.

Oh wow. Completely different impression here and I’ve watched all of them. That’s why it’s been so fun on all sides - desperation soccer.

I still think Riqui's "pass" to Yamane was really an attempted shot to the upper far right corner that just didn't have enough power and happened to fall directly to Miki....lol

Same. I have my normal seats. They are probably creating extra "Chivas" sections next to the normal away sections and so needing to move STM in those sections.

Well, Sunday's game might be perfect to rest some legs for the starters, while giving some minutes to the youngsters.

    Micovic
    Cuevas Garcés Zavaleta/Yoshida Nelson
    Cerrillo
    Lepley Riqui Puig
    Gabriel Pec Berry Paintsil
Perfect game to give his first start to Garcés. I would love to pair him with Neal but Vanney has been reluctant to play Jalen twice in a week.

Deserved start for Cuevas and Lepley (and deserved rest for Yamane and Delgado). Brugman with a 30-45 minutes sub appearance would be nice.

Up front Gabriel Pec and Paintsil deserve a break too, but since Fagundez came off injured from the SJ game, he won't play. This would have been the perfect game to give a start to Jonathan Pérez.

Is there a benefit to finishing first or second in the group?

More or less. Group 6 I believe is who we match up to. That group is made up of Sounders, Loons and Necaxa. Loons have 3 points and have played both their matches. The only pending match is Seattle v Necaxa. Seattle have 3 points from their one match so if Necaxa wins in reg they will all be tied at 3 points. Necaxa plays Seattle tomorrow same we take on Chivas.

If Galaxy head their group the more likely opponent will be Loons. If Galaxy gets wacked with all the kiddies out there then they most like get Seattle.

Seattle as many may have seen is on the comeback trail and hungry. We can probably take them but it will be a battle royale.

So we rest our tired legs and get some rested players for Seattle or we kill the Goats and take our chances with some fatigue and the Loons.

    Oh. My. Lord.

That may be the longest power goal (not counting out-of-position-gk chips) I’ve ever seen in soccer. What was that - close to 40 yards?

Edit: Using the grass strips as rough guides I estimate the shot to be ~36 yards. Truly a galozo.

    Game day!

7:30 PM PT - Chivas vs. Galaxy at DHSP

Quick recap: Galaxy are through - they win the group with any result other than losing in regulation. Chivas needs to win (regulation or PKs) to advance. San Jose needs a Galaxy win (regulation or PKs) to advance.
