Your thread to discuss all of our Leagues Cup games. A made-up tournament doesn't get individual game threads unless we make the knockout rounds. Here is our round-robin schedule: Wed. July 31 - 7:30 p.m. away to San Jose Sun. Aug 4 - 7:30 p.m. away (but in our home stadium) to Chivas All games on Apple TV. The San Jose match is free for those without a MLS subscription. I hope we rest guys who are hurt or tired and give guys who are fighting for sub minutes a chance to shine. Let's Go Galaxy!!
Galaxy is in group 3 along with Liga MX Guadalajara and MLS Earthquakes. Not an especially hard group. Chivas is an upper middle of the board team right now having only played 4 matches with 2-1-1 record so far and in 7th place. Chicharito plays for them as every fan knows and also Cade Cowell who is having a nice run as of late with that team. San Jose is, well, San Jose. The less said about them the less pain it will mean for their fans. Just don’t make eye contact. Game 1. Wednesday July 31st. Earthquakes v Galaxy Game 2. Sunday August 4th. Guadalajara v Galaxy LET'S GO ! ! !
1: Its Chich returning, so that'll be interesting, 2: Cade was left off the Olympics roster and word is he's been on a tear since (we know what that sort of run of form is like with LD) 3: San Jose literally has nothing to play for in the league, so they may go hog wild in the leagues cup. I worry for player safety.
As far as I can tell, he hasn't played at all, at least for Chivas' first team He did play in their final preseason game, though, and got good reviews https://www.chivasdecorazon.com.mx/...but-con-Chivas-de-Omar-Govea-y-Daniel-Aguirre
Oh - this is why Puig played the entire second half of the all star game, we don’t have a game for a week!! I’m looking forward to this tournament. I beg this team to not piss me off.
If we advance we play someone from the Minnesota, Seattle, Necaxa group in the round of 32. hosting is based on last years results so we could only host the Mexican club. the only MLS teams we could host would be Miami (!!), Colorado, Toronto.
Had to look up the rules as I had forgotten them -- Group Stage is 3 teams per group-- so just 2 games. And then the top 2 teams from each group advance to the Round of 32 and the bottom team is done. There are no ties. If games end tied, both teams get 1 point like normal, but then there is PKs and the winning team gets 1 additional point. Tiebreakers are 1. head-to-head record 2. goal difference 3. goals scored 4. goals conceded 5. goal difference vs. tied teams 6. fewest cards 7. drawing of lots
Galaxy Leagues Cup roster is out. Regular VCFC players Ramos Jr., Bibout, and Scott are on the list. Most notable for me is Riley Dalgado. He is a University of Portland commit and there has been no word as far as I know about him signing a VCFC or Galaxy HG contract. If he was leaving for Portland, however, he would not be available for Leagues Cup. Dalgado is a very solid LB who has shown the ability to get forward with VCFC. Given how hard it is to find quality MLS left backs, I'm sure the Galaxy would like to keep developing him. Also, no Reus in case you were wondering. #LAGalaxy official 2024 Leagues Cup roster pic.twitter.com/dHeVPqzWes— Justin Ruderman (@JustinRuderman_) July 25, 2024
You're right about Dalgado and it's a pleasure to see him stay with the club, but the reason of his presence could be simpler : with Aude injured, we need another LB and he was the perfect fit.
True. They've been rotating Yamane over to LB and playing Cuevas at RB when they wanted to give Nelson a rest, but I'm sure they want a little more cover for the position. It's also possible they are simply including him as cover for the San Jose and Chivas group stage games and he will go off to college after that.
Chaves? OIC. Galaxy is in group 2 BTW. I got my math all mixed up. Why did no one say anything about Fagundez being named Pepe either? You know I like my childish humor.
Top two teams in a group of three? Makes half of MLS teams making the post season a positively Herculean task. Still salty about MLS’s disrespect to USOC.
Anybody watched the Austin v Pumas game? Last year I said these LC games are better than regular MLS matches. This is why. The level of rivalry, of focus, of grit is awesome. And this is just the first dayI I dont care about money grabbing. If you will produce these type of matches, bring a satchel, I will help you fill it. Now LAFC v Xolos!
I did. What a game. What a save. Watching LAFC game right now. These games definitely have a tournament soccer feel. I love the energy. And man, these leagues HATE one another. And I mean HATE. I’m here for every minute. I love it.
Osorio ejected for (lightly) head butting an official after the injury. (Hope that player is ok. He was carted off.)
Winners of both leagues got a pass to the next round. That’s pretty cool to rest up and avoid injuries.
