I'll give Becks a bad game. No real preseason (his fault), turf, wet and new players around him. However, his attitude to what was happening around him contributed more to his poor play than his skill. Becks, face it, your here for one more season. Pretend you care, play with passion and dont punish your teammates for your not wanting to be in the states any more.

And yes, Lallas is a twat.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree. The game was scrappy at times, but to say Juninho was the worst player out there... I'm sorry but I didn't see anything like that. The periods of scrappiness and the fast exchanges of possession happened to both teams all night. I blame it on tricky conditions.

I don't see how you can deny though, that when we had periods of sustained possession and assured passing (which we did), Juninho and Birchall were key elements of it.

Donovan was guilty of lacking end product if anything.

Beckham actually did very little right. I hate to say it but that is the worst I've seen the guy play in his entire career and I've been watching him since he was in United's youth team. I stand by my assessment.

I fail to understand how McGee is a professional soccer player, how he manages to start ahead of anyone.. in this team, in this league.

    The guy is total *******

Went to watch the game at the Kings Head in Santa Monica. Had a BLAST. Made the game more enjoyable and maybe because of this(or the pints of Newcastle) I thought that the team played better than most on here.

Great way to set the tone in the first half. I could tell it would be a solid scrappy game just by the first 10 minutes.

In Todd I trust. MOTM for me.

    Awful performance by Beckham. Awful.

I wasn't too sure what to expect of Barrett. Actually, yes i did. I expected him to suck and although at times he did i really really appreciated his hustle.

All in all a solid performance to start the season.

And! My friend and I won tickets to sunday's game so life is pretty damn good right now. :D

Sorry had to fix your post, but I concur on the sentiment. Wow, Junni's goal was just one of "those" type outta nowhere shots, that the goalkeeper gets his hand on, but still goes in type efforts.

I don't know how JPA is off of free kicks, corner kicks, or other dead ball situations... but last night I cried for Buddle. I weeped at his absence. and without Gonzilla we shouldn't even take corner kicks, we should play short and work it in.

Our midfield is ridiculously "f^$#king" stale. But not nearly as imcompotent as Mike Magee, whose game was allover the place last night.

Last night was one of the ugly outplayed wins. we had a lot of those last season and it doesnt seem to have changed this year.

I miss the days when this team dominated games and won handily instead of getting out played allover the pitch and stealing a win or tie.

A great sports authority once said : "I would rather win ugly than lose pretty."

Was obviously talking about the Galaxy... The Dutch national team, Arsenal, and the Galaxy circa 2001-2004 we are not.

and Just a quick observation and a very telling one. Any team that starts Mike Magee and Chad Barrett as starting forwards should be bitch-slapped by FIFA for disparaging the good name of soccer, they should sanction Bruce Arena right now for crimes against football for that move last night.

I'm glad that Beck's is no longer getting a free pass by those who really pay his salary, The fans. That Prima-donna was the worst player on the pitch. He plays NO defense and gave the ball away every time he touched it. We literally played with 10 players. What a privileged snob. HE SUCKS

Good win considering the awful conditions. They need some real grass in that stadium.

The starting combo of Barrett and Magee was disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing Angel in his first game. Barrett is nothing more than hustle guy to bring in for defense when ahead. He offers no creativity or skill on the ball whatsoever. Magee shows some creativity, but he is nothing more than a change of pace guy also. Who's next....Kirovski?

It is disturbing that teams like RSL, NY, and even Philadelphia can go 4 deep at striker and we fail to get even 1 starting caliber guy out there. On the bright side, at least Seattle's finishing looked just as bad. The loss of Nkufo seemed to affect them.

I was hoping to see some fresh faces out there. The team looked like last season's version minus Buddle. Early in the season, I'd rather see the young guys in there to develop their games and get acclimated to the league. Give them a chance to show what they can do.

So hard to go from watching the EPL for months to the first MLS game. Rain on turf didn't help. Seeing our chosen forwards when ESPN showed the lineup really upset me. We didn't really improve the roster much from last season.

Glad we picked up three points and hopefully we'll see some joga bonita next game.

Oh, I'm late. But congratulations to the team for the 1st win in the 1st game of the season! Have to say that the game was ugly though. All of the players were poor. Oh well..better to win ugly then loss pretty as they said. Plus, that's what makes a good team - always win no matter what! Becks was poor, as was others. Hope to see the guys improve in the next games through the season. But hey, it's just the 1st game, they are still shaking out their "sleeping mucles". As long as we won, even playing ugly, that's all I care. Get as much 3 points as you can, baby! XD

you are telling me, one shocking thing is how much more contact seems to be allowed by MLS than EPL. Hard to string together passes when both teams are allowed so much contact.

What are you talking about? He's "The Machine." Man is the greatest goal scoring scoring striker MLS has ever seen! (at least according to Bruce's observation of him in practice) Haven't you heard!? Jeez...:p

I hate magee just as much as the next guy. I really can't stand him... but he had some nice passes yesterday. Was it him that set up Donovan for that canonazo that hit the crossbar? Other than that close free kick and a few nice corners that becks had, i think magee did better than him. I can't even believe I'm sorta of defending him... I hate him.

Who is this McGee people are talking about? Does he have the same agent as Donavan and Cordoza?

IMO, this is an utter crap argument. He could be passing to me or to Jesus Christ himself and the result would have been no different. The passes he "made" almost exclusively went directly to Seattle players. He could have been playing in Tottenham and still had no less of an impact on this game (his one nice free kick aside).

My guess if the Galaxy have anything to do with it, they are with the 2010 STH Event invitations in the file called - Things Nobody Needs to See:D

Seriously though, I remember the big deal that was made about the organization hired to perform game analysis. I sure hope that this isn't the end-product. http://www.mlssoccer.com/content/2011-extended-stats

Just letting everyone know I'm back from Seattle safe and sound.

It was amazing to get the win at Qwest surrounded by 36,000 Sounders fans. I think there were about 20-30 of us in the supporters section singin' the Galaxy songs and cheering on our guys for 90 minutes. I got a bit of fighting from some weirdos after the game but the Riot Squad guys had my back. Didn't appreciate the downpour of rain but I used my scarf as a makeshift head covering, trust me that's never going to be a fashion trend but it worked for the time. Folks around town were really nice, some heckling here and there but nothing serious. We celebrated the win at an Irish pub after the game and that was pretty awesome, always good to get your drink on while turning 23.

Oh and by the way, I may be the only fan and STH to have seen a full Galaxy practice. Thanks be to Qwest for being a fairly open facility, we watched practice Monday afternoon. We just happened to be in the area when they tweeted about it so we went and watched about an hour of it. So between watching practice and getting the win on my birthday I'd say I started the age of 23 just right!

Saunders was MOTM for me by the way. Screaming for him is probably why I lost my voice. I was insanely worried about not having Ricketts so I'm glad Saunders more than pulled through. Also to the Mags (Magee) haters, he was on the cover of the Seattle Times newspaper Wednesday morning with a great full shot of Saunders in the article.

This gives me hope for future generations! Thanks for the report and bigs props for representing LAG STHs everywhere.

Of course there is no way the HDC would open up for anyone, even our own fans. And leave it to those douche bags in Seattle to put Magee on the cover of anything. They got whatever they deserved for that.

GalaxyGal, are you in your same seats in 101 this year? Hope to see you Sunday.

It's not a crap argument because I wasn't even commenting on Becks play there. I was explaining why I don't like LD on the left & Becks on right in general. Because even when Becks is playing well he needs someone to make creative interchanges with (he isn't going to outrun anyone) or else he is forced to resort to big crosses from the wing.

If you read my entire post u would have seen that i said Becks was bad this game.

Everone gets so reactive when Becks name is mentioned that they sometimes don't even hear what is being said.

The city was a blast and I was sure proud to sport my Galaxy scarf everywhere we went (and I'm fairly certain we did every tourist thing in the city, we were high on coffee)

I am still in the same seats as last season, 101 row A and our tradition is to bring home baked cookies to each game so stop by, say hi, and get a cookie! This goes for everyone! (while supplies last haha) :)
