Re: Ownership Saga [R] Well i think if they get this off the ground BS liverpool fans should buy one share amongst us.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] I haven't looked into this fascinating ploy, but, on the face of it there seems to be some obvious problems would £500m be sufficient? according to the website the new stadium will cost £290m (is that in 2009 pounds? are they budgeting for any contingency?) so they think The Americans can be bought off for £210m? sounds low, no? also, how could negotiations proceed? I would think many people wouldn't want to cough up real money before they know that The Americans would even negotiate -- and would The Americans even negotiate without a ton of money in escrow? I wouldn't think pledges would be sufficient to commence serious negotiations (try collecting on 100,000 pledges) has this been addressed already?
Re: Ownership Saga [R] This to me seems like a fantastic idea. Its abit bold perhaps, for the fans to try this, i mean, being pioners(atleast in the UK) of anything is allways risky and a bold move. But im all for it, ive allways admired the heart and passion for the game shown by stevie G and carra, aswell as reina. plus, torres has been and IS class. Good luck, im sure youll need it.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Probably not, but how much could you leverage that for? Hicks and Gillett leveraged very little of their own money for their loan. So these guys might not have the business acumen of Hicks and Gillett, but you would have to think they'd get at least 2:1, more likely 3.5:1 or even greater.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Great idea, although I have more faith in the combined earning power of the BS Reds. I'll put up for one share. Wingtips is a banker, he can supply the other 29,999 we'd need to be the biggest block. Multiple shares. A seat on the board, perhaps. Certainly a seat in the Director's box.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] The whole idea is pretty good. if the likes of Barcelona can pull this of without going into self destruct mode, then there a chance for Liverpool. Hard to get 3 scousers in a pub to agree on which is the best beer let alone a board of directors agreeing who to buy for the team. As for BS Reds, seems to me that a good many are student some still live with parents and are out of work, a couple are newlyweds and I'm in the real estate business. What a motley crew, talk about high finance. So definitely count me in and don't worry about the directors box a couple of seats in the New Kop will sufice.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] A stand-out paragraph for me:- This was my main worry as I don't £5000 lying about. But if a few of us can cobble together our beer money (or whatever you have a predilection for) for a month ...
Re: Ownership Saga [R] that's bollocks and you know it. a pint being £2, a group of drinking mates being 5, weekly consumption being 2 at lunch, 1 one the way home, 2 in the evening (4 on friday) and 6 on saturday, it would mean the whole group (of hardened alcoholics at mentioned consumption) would have to go cold sober for SIX MONTHS to buy one share. ... frankly i see more scousers giving up the reds than giving up beer! but let's do some non-euclidian math. there are YNWA members on planet earth with (much) more than 5000 quid in a dirty sock. and there are plenty of little groups who can put together that sum... by cancelling sky for example, much more humane than giving up beer. we'll follow pareto as saying that's 20% + 20%. you still have to find 60,000 people (most 'pool fans are people) willing and able to invest £5000. uhhh... no. go into a bank with this business plan and you'll be firmly escorted out by security. if it makes you feel any better, another club which will remain nameless has been through this and failed just as miserably. mind you nothing would please me more. even though i was born in CA, i would love to see i'm so bored with the USA be the next premiership theme song. and looking at this from the vantage point of france, where strict (perhaps outmoded) regulations have discouraged big money from coming in, i would love to see any step that would help football become more sport and less business succeed. but this is indeed a pipe dream. a shame too, because the cause is as noble as can be. here's what i would do if i was a scouser: get a season pass to tranmere rovers or resign myself to Business as usual.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/live...campaign-to-buy-liverpool-fc-100252-20424602/ http://www.shareliverpoolfc.co.uk/ If you read the reports the Chicago branch "Dr Taylor said he had taken a phone call from the Chicago branch of the Liverpool FC Supporters Club just one hour earlier, making him an offer he couldn’t refuse”. Maybe we could have a big soccer offer that he couldn't refuse, I have $100 we only need another 49..............
Re: Ownership Saga [R] I'm good for 2,500 shares. one of the MD's is a big 'pool fan (grew up in Wales). he said he would get 5,000 shares if multiple were available. a 7500 share block from one bank could potentially secure a board seat depending on how many seats would be on offer.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] If it actually was coming off I would buy one for me and one for MiniLB. But really this is a pipedream -- and I'd like some of what ever was in the pipe when they dreamed it up.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] I don't have much, and I'm a poor Penn State student, but I'd go donate plasma (they give you $40 every time you do) to help out the cause. Give me a couple of weeks, and I'll chip in $200. It's not much, but it's what I can give. YNWA
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Well if you and your mate have got £37.5m to contribute, I suggest you get on the blower to the guys at ShareLFC. Doesn't seem much point in doing it as part of the Bigsoccer Share Club (such as it is ... n't) if you're good for just shy of 10% of the total that this global appeal is looking for.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] It is a lot of money for me but I think I have it. http://www.shareliverpoolfc.co.uk/
Re: Ownership Saga [R] I'd throw down a couple hundo into the Bigsoccer Liverpool Share. We could elect our own Executive Director - the campaign battle between _SC and 26 would be epic, then a remarkable twist at the end with a darkhorse bid by Grinners. Everyone would battle for LB's and usscouse's endorsements, with Stilton and Bobinhood providing the running commentary. 20 posters @ $250? I'd buy my own share if I could, but I'm poor.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Me Too!!!! Imagine a lifetime voting supporter of the greatest club and you can be sure that I would "sell" my spot to my child at the end of my life. My wife might not think it's worth it but.......
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Im just gonna put it on my visa, then ask Tom Hicks to loan me the money to pay it back
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Well, I've sent off for the information. If it gets off the ground, let's talk money. At $250 a BS Red, we're going to need 40 of us, which is a bit above the regular count around here. But I do think we should all stick in the same amout, otherwise you have the "all men are created equal, some are just more equal than others" issue I alluded to in a previous post. Probably going to have to be $500 each. Or those of us that can afford it kick in more than those that can't.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Pounds, not dollars, so more like 500 a person. EDIT: Sorry, Matt already clarified that. But good to see the site is getting that many hits. After reading through some things It's really not as much of a pipe dream as I once thought.
Re: Ownership Saga [R] Yeah, got carried away and forgot to convert. Stupid falling dollar. And yeah, I too think this is more realistic than when I first read about it. Hey, if there's going to be an ownership revolution in British football, there's no better team to make it happen.
