As well as McBride has started in the EPL, it may be setting the table for MO to head for the States. We all know he is unhappy, and 'Pool is not too thrilled with him, at the moment. With as much off time as he has had, should MLS bucks up for a loan, and put him on the MetroStars?

Yeah, and while we're at it we could snatch up Zidane, R(on)(iv)aldo, Beckham, and Roberto Carlos. That would be just dandy.

    Sober as a judge, here.
Not as far fetched as all that.
MLS could stand a pre-season story to grab Media attention. And how much would Owen really be? A few million? That is chump change to the Billionaires who run the league. Also, what do you think MO would say to the chance to play in the world's number one media market? After Liverpool? Oh, yeah baby, he would sign in a New York minute.

If so, he doesn't know when to quit.

Um, counter: the US is a huge media market. But not for soccer players.

    You're not serious, are you?

We all admire young Donovan for sticking with MLS. Now, if you knew the kind of Personal Service contracts he has signed, you would understand why it was easy to turn down the Bayer millions.

    Here are the simple facts:
A mid-level athlete celeb can make more money in endorsements in a year in the US than the top names in EPL. It just is the difference in the size of the markets.

And, bringing in Owen could come out of the Marketing budget. Instead of spending millions on more paid spots and media, bring in MO, and get millions in free media. Any way you look at it, MO in the MLS would be a win, win, win situation.

OK, I'll bite -- why would McBride's performance with Everton have anything to do with Liverpool shipping Owen to MLS?

    I need some amusement.

Why would Owen take a massive paycut to play in what is seen as an inferior league . It would be similar to Barry Bonds leaving MLB to go play in the Mexican League ( which is considered double A baseball ) .

Michael Owen isn't coming to MLS. If you think he is/would you are hugely mistaken and mislead.

I retract my statement in defense of counter. I can't believe anyone would even suggest it.

And you're stupid if you think Owen to MLS would actually help the league anyway. After all you can see how Pele and George Best cemented soccer as a major sport in America.

And it would bring a lot of media coverage from England but that isn't going to help us. 99% of Americans wouldn't give a s**t if Owen came to the MLS. And lastly if we did sign a major player I'd rather have the MLS get a good dribbler or someone with amazing free kicks. Owen may be good but he isn't the most exciting player in the world. His main asset is his speed and we have players just as fast.

Well, hypothetically speaking of course, if Owen did come here, I think it would make some headlines and I think it would draw some bigger crowds. I'm sure it'd be a hyped up media event and people would come out to see him. Some make the argument that he's overrated, but he does have tremendous skills. Would it make soccer mainstream in America? Probably not, but it sure wouldn't hurt. Of course none of this would ever happen so all this is a moot point.

I don't know how to take that comment but I will say, as someone who was a product of that era, that before those two played here, there was hardly anyone playing youth soccer, there were almost no high school teams, few college programs and the only soccer on tv was the WC finals and often just the final match.
There was a gigantic boom after Pele came to the US and AYSO grew in a huge way. What we are seeing now would not have happened but for the period of NASL.
It layed the groundwork for all we are seeing now being possible. Especially US players.
