He wouldn't at worst he would be in direct competition with V.Nist. But most likely Red Nose would move Rooney to midfield to replace the ailing Scholes.

I'm looking forward to Shevchenko and Gilardino will set that standard this year. :)

    Newcastle.....never, they're not in Europe!

    ManU or Arsenal......Don't think so!

    Liverpool....most likely!

Here's who I think could use him the most...

    1. Everton - wants to stay in CL this year, but failing that, wants to make sure they qualify in top 4 again.

    2. Tottenham - pushing hard to get into top 4.

    3. Man United - really does need to score more goals. Having RVN & Owen up top with Rooney withdrawn and Ronaldo and Giggs or Park wide gives them a pretty potent offense. Then the likes of Scholes, Ole Gunnar and Smith coming off the bench. Owen may actually be just the piece they need to challenge Chelsea.

I don't see Arsenal or Liverpool making a play for him. Bolton & Middlesbrough probably don't have the budget and I don't see him being willing to go to anyone lower than that.

Tottenham don't need him, they have Defoe and Keane for that role.

If he went to Everton they would have to play 4-4-2. It was their numbers in midfield which helped them get results last season, they don't have the defensive strength to play 2 up front without also sacrificing Cahill's freedom to get into the opposition penalty box.

Well - I'd argue that Owen would be an upgrade over Defoe or Keane - and depth wouldn't hurt.

Also, did Everton play a 4-5-1 because they wanted to or because that was the formation that best suited their existing personnel.

Last year, their main lineup was what (I don't remember who played what positions across the field - so if I have a RB and CB switched, pardon me).

    ----- Martyn
    Hibbert Yobo Watson Weir
    ---------- Carsley
    McFadden - Arteta - Kilbane
    ------------ Cahill
    ---- Bent

Also, I did find several instances late in the season where both Ferguson and Bent played up top in a 4-4-2 with Cahill behind them.

So - this year, why not this...

    ----- Martyn
    Koldrup Naismith Yobo Weir
    -------- Neville
    Davies - Cahill -- Kilbane
    ---- Bent - Owen

Our main lineup last year was:

    -----------Martyn
    ---Hibbert Stubbs Weir Pistone
    Osman Cahill Carsley Arteta Kilbane
    ------------Bent

In parts of the second half of the season, we switched to a 4-4-2, usually with Osman out and Beattie up front. We've lost Stubbs, so Yobo will take his place and Koldrup will be in for Weir. The rest is still in the air.

I do like your suggestion for this year, except your back line. It should be:
Hibbert Yobo Koldrup Pistone(unless we can sign a new LB)
