The D.C. boys are all talking about what an overrated player Chris Armas is. I personally think that this statement is ass backward and I would put Chris on my team no matter what. So, in all of your opinions, who are some of the most overrated and underrated players in the league?
I would say that players such as Landon Donovan (only in league play) are overrated. To list them out: Donovan, Mathis, Diallo(was), Pineda Chacon, Serna, and Razov. I think some underrated players are Barrett, Bocanegra, Buddle, and Ed Johnson. I really like the way Ed Johnson plays even if he is on Dallas.
Just throwing out a few names as of today (leaving out FIRE players). OVERRATED Valderrama Cerritos Kreis Jordan Etcheverry Petke Nick Garcia Califf Cienfuegos Pope Ralston Cullen Cannon UNDERRATED Ekelund Mulrooney Franchino Hernandez Eliott Marshall Vagenas Guiterrez Klein Zarco Chivas Prideaux Rimando Busch Clark Chung Henderson
I don't think that Ekelund is overrated but I would have to say that he definetly underrated. I mean almost every time the Quakes are on ESPN2 one of the broadcasters will talk about his playing experience in Europe. His volley off that freekick was one hell of a goal though.
My #1 Chris Albright has to be the most hyped over-rated player of all time. I have never seen him do anything positive, except when he leaves the pitch.
Re: My #1 Chris Albright was once overrated, since he was spoken about with respect. Chris Albright is now either fairly rated (if he's truly terrible) or underrated (if he's only bad), since he is universally regarded as the worst forward in MLS.
Any list of overrated players that doesn't have McBride (not for the US, just columbus) on it is at least one name too short. probably three.
Jason Kreis is one of the most underrated players in MLS and certainly by Bruce Arena as well. (That saying alot coming from a Fire fan) He is one of 5 or so players in the League that can completely take over a game on his own.
Odd isn't it how different everyone's perceptions are. For a Fire fan to talk about Kreis this way when in Dallas it is very evenly divided on over / under rated. Kries is really very good when healthy but tends to break down from overuse by the end of the year and into the playoffs. Sometimes a move to a different team opens everyone's eyes (Preki, Henderson) as to what they had but never appreciated.
Really? Hmm....not sure if I can agree with this straight up...Are you saying that McBride is rated so much higher than a lot of the other scrub MLS forwards and therefore as a "rated elite Forward" is therefore over rated? Or are you saying that McBride is no more of a decent forward than Albright? Boy is Everton going to be in for a letdown then eh?
I like this Fire Fan. I think Stoichkov is overrated, his free kick abilities are great, but other than that he's like a mexican national teamer, more dives than good play. Kreis is good in the beggining of the season but falls flat towards the end. He never seems to take shots from outside the box anymore. I remember in the Burn's opening years he'd score some amazing goals from far out. I guess things were different back then. I think the way gay ESPN talks about Donovan he is overrated but after watching him in the WC, he definetly is a great young player. Valderama is overrated. Petke is WAY overrated. Mathis is sometimes.
Missing from this thread Is the obligatory Freddy Adu mention....How soon will he be "heralded" ;-) as over-rated?
I realize that MLS has a very high standard of goalkeeping, but Joe Cannon is nowhere near as good as Quakes fans make him out to be.
