Out goes "Donald Sterling" in comes "Jerry Buss" - because you can never have too many basketball references in a soccer blog... Los Angeles, California. - Chivas USA has announced Wednesday that Jorge Vergara and Angelica Fuentes acquired the remaining 50 percent ownership of its former partners, Antonio and Lorenzo Cue, making Vergara and Fuentes majority owners of the Chivas USA MLS soccer team . The Cue brothers were current operators of Chivas USA. Jorge Vergara and Angelica Fuentes have owned 50 percent of Chivas USA and have been part owners of the club since its creation in 2004. "We are delighted to acquire the remaining 50 percent of Chivas USA" noted Angelica Fuentes. "We are very excited about the future that Chivas USA will have" added Vergara. In addition to Chivas USA, Jorge Vergara, President of the Board of Management of Grupo Omnilife - Chivas and Angelica Fuentes, Executive Chairman of Grupo Omnilife - Chivas, since 2002, own one of the most successful soccer clubs in Club Deportivo Guadalajara, known as Chivas. In addition to being part of its creation in 2004, co-owners of Chivas USA, Antonio and Lorenzo Cue collaborated with the various ownership groups in MLS in leading the American league to grow from 12 to 19 teams in the United States and Canada. "It was a great honor to be in the MLS and we are very proud of the role we have played in the growth of the league," said Antonio Cue, "We have enjoyed our time at Chivas USA and we want to thank our fellow partners, owners and the league office ". "Chivas USA entered the MLS in 2005 in a critical phase for soccer in North America," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber, "Antonio and Lorenzo Cue have been great passionate owners, in addition to being our partners for the past 8 years. I want to thank the Cue family entirely for their support and confidence in U.S. soccer. I look forward to working closely with Jorge and Angelica as new partners in this Club”.
Is this good news or bad news? I just want a rebrand for this club. Inter Los Angeles! Or the Aztecs. Hell, even LA Goats is better. P.S. for the guy who did the new logo, can't wait to see the quakes and revs new logos. For the revs, can you use Boston?
Not cool with Inter or Aztecs, since A) what the hell is Inter to an American sports team? B) Pretty sure Aztecs name is owned by the old NASL and those assets were bought by the new NASL. Both names suck IMO. And to hopefully end the constant bringing up of those names in "rebranding" discussions... As long the team is owned by whoever owns Chivas de Guadalajara, this team will always have the Chivas brand associated with it in official form. Same thing for the Revs. Both them and the New England Patriots of the NFL are owned by Robert Kraft and I'm sure he's focused on a branding that caters to the entire New England region... but I might do a special one for you with Boston in it... P.S. F*** the Celtics
I'm not from Boston or anything. From NY actually. Just think Boston is too iconic and historic of an American city that it should have its name in each sports team. Anyways, you may not like my ideas but do you really like Chivas? Your crest is pretty majestic and regal looking and doesn't go with a team named the goats.
Have you looked at the CD Guadalajara crest? My thoughts exactly but nevertheless thats their logo. and to clarify because I sorta botched the last part of my last post by not mentioning the Patriots and just it corrected a minute ago, Robert Kraft owns the Patriots and Revs, two teams with the New England regional identifier, which seems to indicate that's what his marketing team is focused on maintaining... I'll still do a special logo for you though lol
My concern is why would Cue leave when the club is said to be heading in a positive direction and close to a stadium announcement. If there is so much potential, there's no way anyone would sell. Could Vergara be lining up his pieces to sell the club?
Exactly. This makes no sense. Cue and his people were doing most of the ground work. I'm not even sure we've seen Vergara at HDC since 2005. This is so abrupt that it sounds like there's bad blood between the parties. Throughout the years Cue has been a counter weight to Vergara's arrogance and meddling in Chivas USA affairs. Remember when Vergara announced a coaching change at Chivas USA and Preki didn't even know about it? Not sure if Vergara will sell. Maybe. He hasn't shown much interest in our club. Chivas USA was Cue's baby. Does anyone else see the current Guadalajara Van Schip-something coming to Chivas USA next year? lol..In all seriousness, this is a hard blow to the organization and the loyal fans.
It could be a good thing. If vergara is anything it's hard-headed. When he gets an idea he runs with it no matter how ludacris. He also doesn't like to admit failure. He would rather sink with his ship. Everybody is giving him a hard time for the holland expedition but he's trying to revolutionize Mexican futbol and put them on par with the Spanish and Dutch and English. I wouldn't mind us being a global threat and presence. Can it be any worse than it is now? We can hardly compete in our own league On the other hand he's kind of cheap when it comes to shelling out for talent.if he sells I'm going going to be pissed because there was. Time when they were declining interested investors like DeLa Hoya and others
I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. I'm not really to happy on this full take over by Vergara. Disappointed, the Cue brothers gave up on the club and Chivas USA fans.
^This. How can anyone truly be content with the groundwork Cue and his people were laying?Don't look at it from the diehard's perspective but try looking at the history of this club through a birds eye view, the casual fan. Years of turbulent attendance resulting from a steady decline in on-field quality, I'm talking about results and current streak of no playoff appearances, going from first in the west in 07 to two consecutive years of 8th. And you blame Vergara for "meddling in Chivas USA affairs?" How anyone could say that after even acknowledging Antonio Cue was the guy in charge this entire time seems pretty sketchy from birds eye my friend.
How can anyone think this is a bad thing? This team flat out sucks. I come in here to read what everyones thoughts are and find myself in disbelief on how people are hoping to squeeze into the play offs. For what? To get knocked out in the first round? I put full blame on the previous ownership for letting this go on for such a long time. Fraiser IS NOT the person to coach this team. We are CHIVAS. that means something. Weather you lean towards the American version or the Mexican version. The name means that you are affiliated with the Guadalajara team. Chivas de Guadalajara is struggling but not for lack of spending money. We Chivas USA have struggled becaue Antonio Cue is a cheep skate that never intended to bring in a DP and has always passed on signing players returning to the MLS. Maybe Vergara got tiered of this shit and said, "I'm buying you out". I for one am happy that Vergara is taking over cause I am tiered of watching non tacticle boring soccer. First order of business FIRE FRAISER!
Wow….. and wow…. I’m sure lots of people/fans are like w@th@ F@k I’m one of them, when I found out about this yesterday lost of mix feelings and million things rushing thru my head … Rey are you exciter? Yes I’m, because Vergara would always demand 100% of their workers or else..YOU ARE OUT we need it that Changes are coming …….and they will be big hope things work out for the best of our interest as fans of Chivas USA One thing is for sure know it is more likely that we get our own stadium , Vergara know what it takes to build one and the money he can make PLUS he is not going to like giving his money to the GALAXY owners It is just a way to expand his OMNILIFE business to USA think about it For the Love of Baby JESUS…stop the re-brand BS Chivas is CHIVAS more than ever like it or not ! feel me ( modifications may be, rebrand NO F@ken way) Would Chivas USA go back to is beginnings? Hope so …we need to back to our roots and build from that make CHIVAS USA the peoples team of LOS ANGELES and USA Time will tell all make a better judgment one we meet the new people !
You can't be the peoples team when you only play Mexican players. I hope Vergara doesn't make the same mistakes from the past. Looks like it has begun.
March he knows he can’t play Mexicans only plus I’m sure he knows this is a competitive league and would not settle with second division players from GLD Chivas USA it’s a Monster that need a real leader and driver to take it the right direction lets put some more flavor ( Tapatio and limon lol) to the identity !!!
no one like$ to lo$e money ! $pecially the new owner Been thinking and thinking and it comes to my head that only good things would happened like I mention above …this time would be Vergara’s money the big PLUS here is that there is none else to blame anymore….this is Vergaras team and he will be responsible for the results also back in 05 Chivas USA did not have any true fans know …it is a different story we have the Ultras and the Black army Aver ke pedo… I cant wait to sit down with the new people to see what’s the plan ! Hope we play the 2013 season in East LA college Orale Raza wacha ! es neta Vato
Elac you can change your signature know ! I' just saying May be Vergara would do it faster he likes to change logos, We can probably sing a petition for the logo to get modified to represent LA in the crest aver k pedo
Now this is news, I just found out today. Like many of you I trully do not know what is going to happen with our team. Knowing Verga-ra we might not have a team next season. I really hope this not happens, but for sure we are changing something big, my guess is that we are going back to the latino players idea, in which is not a bad idea now that the team at least have a few core fans.
Vergara's meddling was very public during Chivas USA's most successful run in MSL. He may mean well, but he hasn't exactly been an active owner. Cue and his peeps aren't without fault, but at 8 years we were on a path to the next level and it feels like we're back to the drawing board. Maybe that's a good thing. There's still no indication what Vergara is going to do with the team. We'll see. So Domene is still in?
The "Latino players idea" failed in 2005. He brought sorry ass players that were either no good or old. In 2012, we have players from Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Venezuela, and Uruguay. In addition, we have Chicanos, a Salvadoreno, and a vato loco from Tijuana. That's Latino enough, que no? Liga MX players get paid more in their league to sit on the bench that they do here starting everyday. We have a salary cap to work with and small budget. No offense.
Its like Galarcep was thinking "Guadalajara" as he was typing "Vergara" Guadalajara + Vergara = Vergarara
Latino enough for me ! hay viene los cambios, hope Domene is with us the next season it would really suck if we let hem go Guero Real would be a bad as coach for 2013
