Man, I want us to see more youths in our team. U know, this team is very annoying to support. When u owe youth players, even when we are losing..ur just capable of supporting them, as u hope they get better. but with old player we have, its just win situation teams..and if we lose, its just depressing. HOW Big can Stefano Okaka become? He is just 20 years old, and very powerful. Can he become sthg in future?
He has the potential to become someone like Drogba, and we all hope so...Yes we have talented youth, but imagine a situation: Roma playing against Inter and the game is tied 0:0 and we start to take off the pitch Juan, Perrotta, Totti, Adriano, etc. and start replacing them with Crescenzi, Bertolacci, Pettianari, Stoian...yes, they are all good, but it's not the right time to use them directly within the big club...They have to grow first...
Does anyone have links so we can see these guys in action? I only know their names, but nothing of how they play..
I am huge fan of discussin Youth and stuff.. The U 19 Italian team called for euro 2010 U 19 tournament. PORTIERI: Addario (Empoli), Colombi (Porgocrema), Perin (Genoa) DIFENSORI: Adamo (Palermo), Albertazzi (Milan), Brosco (Triestina), Caldirola (Inter), Crescenzi (Grosseto), Faraoni (Lazio), Malomo (Roma). CENTROCAMPISTI: Bertolacci (Lecce), D'Alessandro (Grosseto), Galano (Bari), Sala (Chelsea), Soriano (Sampdoria), Taddei (Gubbio), Tremolada (Inter). ATTACCANTI: Borini (Chelsea), Destro (Inter), Dumitru (Empoli). Ones in bold are players owned by roma.
Andrea Bertolacci is also a roma player on loan to leece. So we got 5 out of 20 players there. 25 % of U 19 Team is from our youth system. FORZA ITALIA
so when do we start playing them? Till when are we going to depend on 30 year olds and international has beens?
We don't start playing them. We merely develop them to the point that they generate some interest from other clubs, sell them for a few million (if that), and use the money to bring in some more over-the-hill has-beens. I hope none of you honestly expect to see a young stud from our youth academy, break into our senior side anytime soon..
Sometimes we even let English clubs take them for a few hundred thousand euros because of our great laws about youngsters signing professional contracts with Serie A clubs...
I hope Petrucci turns out to be great but gets limited opportunities and returns to Roma, like Gerard Pique returned to Barcelona.
Well I try to follow our youth as much as possible so I will give you a run down on some of our guys: D'Alessandro - Played 28 games for Grossetto last year on loan, and started around half of them. Mainly deployed as an attacking minded winger in a 4-4-2 style formation. Has alot of skill, pace, and will be sent on loan to Bari this season so hopefully we can see him in Serie A. Regular youth international. A future star! Pettinari - The next Totti IMO. Skill, pace, great passer. Will be sent on loan to either Lecce or Siena (hopefully Lecce). Definitely has the quality to start in Serie B and even for Lecce! Man U wanted him but he is a dedicated Roman. Sini - By reports he is a very very talented left back, a regular at youth international (and I think he may even be the U-17 Captain). Just signed till 2013 after having a rift with Alberto De Rossi which is great news. Will be sent on loan to Lecce. Brosco, Malomo - Both internationals, Brosco struggling for game time last season on loan but Malomo is very promising. Both could make the step up. Malomo will be sent on loan, while Brosco will prob return to play as 4th choice maybe? Scardina - Goal scoring machine, tracked by Man U. Will be sent on loan to Crotone. I'd compare him more to a Pippo Inzaghi than a Totti. Has great goal scoring ability, but from reports, isn't known for his skill. I personally have great hopes for him. De La Penna - Roma are gonna use him as third choice goalkeeper at 18. Enough said. Others like Crescenzi and Bertolacci can make it but I think they will be sold off unless they impress on loan next season. Look out for Caprari in our youth team this season. From reports, he is the next De Rossi/Totti.
lol, I read abit into Caprari (who is a winger by the way), and when he was 14, he indirectly helped Roma score by sprinting to the corner post and placing the ball for taddei to quickly cross it and get an assist for Roma against Palermo. A sign of things to come
Crescenzi is going to Crotone on loan, with the right for them to pick up half his contract at the end of the season.
Italy's first match in the U19 Euro is tomorrow; 5 Roma-owned boys to look out for (Brosco, Malomo, Crescenzi, Bertolacci, D'Alessandro).
Here's a little video of Amato Ciciretti. Many consider to be the next Totti, and from all the youth I have seen in the past years, this guy is def the closest. My money is that he will debut at least once this season. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIN9H2MavU4"]YouTube- Amato Ciciretti[/ame] Scored 4 goals in 4 games in the youth championship.
Totti Gol thank you so much for that clip. That boy has a golden left foot!!!! Those shots are undeniably amazing... amazing. Lefty
D'Alessandro, Sini, Bertolacci could all play this week in Serie A. Pettinari has yet to debut for Siena but could play this weekend. Crescenzi came of the bench for Crotone last week. Brosco has started both Triestina's games this season. Scardina started for Como but didnt score.
I don't think too many players come out of most successful clubs youth systems. Although Roma seems to have a few more than most clubs especially as opposed to Inter, Milan and Juve. You had Aquilani ,Totti and De Rossi who came up thru the youth ranks. Now you have Rosi, Greco and Okaka but as a rule though, if you look at top teams rosters throughout the Serie A, not too many players ever get moved up. If you have 2-3 players, I think that will be too many. If anything , I think other lesser or clubs with lower ambitions benfit off of top Serie A youth programs.
