I still think Etcheverry would be an interesting pick, hes fluent in english and spanish, from what i hear is good with youth and from what i remember helped olsen and convey brush up on little things after practices/mentored them both.

He also knows how to get the best out of his players with his drive to win, i really want to see him given a shot. Its no lie it wasnt all Arena that brought us back frmo the dead in 96' .Had etch not been on DC United IMO Arena would have never made it to be US head coach.

Etcheverry gets my vote and I think he should be at the top of the list.

I trust Etch far more than ABMOD .... Having seen Richie personally with youth players (coaching environment) I was not impressed at all. But truthfully - the club management needs to take a good broad look at all that are available and conduct due diligence here.

I'd go with Etcheverry, to be honest.

He is coaching the DCU youth team now, right?

I thought that was John Maessner, but I could be wrong. I heard there was some sort of "dust-up" with the youth teams last summer, so you could be right.

I chatted briefly with Etcheverry at the signing at the team store, and I thought that's what he told me.

I was pretty over-excited to be talking with El Diablo :D

I just looked to verify what I was posting. Here's a link to the Academy Page at DC United: http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/t103/camps/development/

Marco is "Technical Advisor, Youth Development," but John is listed as "Head-Coach" and "Director of Youth Development." But, yeah, Marco is involved too, and that's a good thing IMO.

You should be cast out into the abyss for even mentioning this possibility.

Yep, on all the teams etch' has played for in the past, he was the guy to get the teams going, and the on the field leader who was vocal and everyone wanted to play for.

I think he has the potential to be agreat coach, but in reality somewhat risky as he has no REAL experience.

    Then again look at Nowak?

Bit late here but come on, when's the last time Millwall scored 5 in a game? And he's starting Cooke, which is more than we could say for Fernando sometimes.

Re: Our new coach will be?

Exactly. DC United's management took the "safe" choice with Tommy Soehn (and previously with Rongen and Hudson as well), and look where what that got us.

    Roll the dice. :D

Soehn And Hudson made some sense: Soehn the long time assistant who was an integral part of United's success and Hudson comming off the miraculous turn around with the Fusion.

But I still can't figure out the wRongen hire. He'd failed miserably in New England. Why did United want to give him another chance?

Yeah, I know I should let it go.
