Assume all Fire players available. Who do you put on the field as the regular first 11? I think its a bit intriguing given the different line-ups used in first 10 games. Here's mine: Thornton Brown - Curtin - Boca ? - Gray - Williams - Armas - Beasley Ralph - Razov In the ? spot, I'd go with Whitfield in a pinch, maybe Marsch.
-----------thornton---- ----brown-----curtin----carlos ----dipsey--armas---williams--Beasley ---faria-------ralph--------razov
You gotta like Jon going balls out with a 3-4-3 with only one midfielder who defends. Thornton Brown Curtin Boca Mapp Armas Williams Pause Beasley Razov Ralph Could put Whitfield either in place of Mapp or Brown.
I like this very much. But what if we wanted to transfer to the more modern 4-4-2? Maybe Thornton Whitfield Brown Curtin Bocanegra Mapp Armas Williams(?) Beasley Ralph Razov ? - I am not sure, maybe Pause. Also I don't like Whitfield but who should I fit on the right?
Dipsy -- Dipsy Dipsy Dipsy -- Dipsy -- Dipsy Dipsy Dipsy -- Dipsy -- Dipsy Thornton ....c'mon, I had to be realistic.
OK, I did a lot of thinking and decided that, to me, this is an absolute best 11 we got now: ............Thornton Brown Curtin Bocanegra Perez ...............Armas Mapp...................Beasley ...............Williams .........Raplh.......Razov Looks cool and we have 8 veterans in this lineup!
We tried that a few seasons ago, and it didn't quite work out... 3-5-2 (always! no "modern" 4-4-2 nonesense!) Thornton; CJ, Curtin, Boca; Whitfield, Armas, Marsh, Williams, Beasley; Razov and Ralph Of course, I haven't seen anybody play this season (apart from goals highlights) so Pause for Marsh might be a good switch. Looks like the US team will be home at the first chance, so we won't have long to go without 3 of our best--not that we've missed them that much...
If you're going 3-5-2, I'm thinking maybe Mapp instead of Whitfield, based on recent performances (sorry, Evan). Especially with Marsch in there to cover when he pushes forward. But otherwise, I'd tend to agree. And after the USMNT matches this weak, I'd almost rather have Beasley on the right side, and Mapp on the left. It gives him the opportunity to make that cutback move and put the ball on his left to cross. Of course, he may not be nearly as good at that cutback move if he has to make it with his right foot, so what do I know? Later, COZ
