Allegedly we did tons of research into slot and he was Hughes choice. We won last year - so that's great. We now hear of friction between slot and management - why? did we miss on the research as a whole - is slot immutable - is he totally being found out in England etc? there is no guarantee that Xabi be a success here either.
I dunno. These performances are certainly uninspiring, but booting Slot for Alonso now seems a bit panicky to me. Is Alonso really the ideal Klopp replacement given the Madrid results? Maybe.
I can’t see booting Slot for Alonso as anything more than a United type move. Chasing managers who might be better is short-termism and a guaranteed lose lose.
Alvaro Arbeloa is said to be next in line for the Real Madrid job. While Florentino Perez is still running things, I don't know why anyone would want the job. If the rumblings about trouble between Slot, some of the players, and also with Hughes et al, I would imagine that Xabi has already been sounded out, or soon will be. I doubt that the club would make a move at this point unless things are truly untenable. EDIT: Arbeloa has been appointed as RM manager.
We don't want to be chopping and changing managers but what has Slot done this season to justify sticking with him?
Fair. The majority of the game was the same slow, plodding lack of direct attacking we’ve seen all year. Crosses with nobody in the box to attack them a lot, especially in the first half. Goals 3-4 came very late and after finally a couple of direct/ fast moves. We flirted with giving away another 2-0 lead for a good bit Throw in the same questionable squad management and you had a very typical Liverpool 2025-26 game.
That result is exactly why Man United need a proper rebrand…pic.twitter.com/xwxN1LqUFJ— Paddy Power (@paddypower) September 14, 2025
Hmmmm... gotten into the CL qualification spot? Surely, if that stays achieved, and there's a run into the deeper end of this year's competition it should be a securing of his ongoing position? If not - why are the primers of these things different now to say, 7-8 years ago? The passing backwards/sideways is annoying - but it wasn;t liek that last year and one has to assume when Wirtz, Ekiteke/Isak/whoever replaces Salah (or even a rejuvenated Salah this year) taht we will have more of the thrust forward that Diaz, Darwin, Diogo, Salah produced Gravenberch, MacAllister, Sboz, Jones will pas to these guys if they are moving there.... Gakpo hardly likes to do that kind of thing at all, and Isak never hit fitness/form, while Wirtz was in and out like a YoYo all that said - I'm quite willing to give it next year with hopefully the Italian kid and another CB, and a Wide Right player to see what we can do
