the fun continues at Spurs - Postecog ripping Werner in public after his poor play yesterday, and doubling down on it today.
We got lucky with werner - or maybe he got unlucky going to chelski. Almost sure - under Klopp - he would have thrived. We got Jota instead - who for all the injuries - is great for us. Spurs were dumb to re-sign werner. he was terrible the first time they had and what were they expecting??
Do we know if the seeds 1-8 play the lowest winners in a line up from 24 v 9; 23 v 10; 22 v 11 etc? Or is there gonna be a further knockout draw? Does being Seed One give us some kind of ongoing advantage?
Seed 1-2 most likely has a big advantage... as they will not play anyone that finishes 3-6 until the semis, and they will not play their opposite 1 or 2 seed until the final. Of course, something weird might happen when clubs that shouldn't underperform do underperform... so right now for instance, it's possible as a 1 or 2 seed to get Real Madrid or Manchester City in the round of 16, because of them not getting it together until midway through the competition. Theoretically this shouldn't happen, as these kinds of clubs should be highly ranked at the end of the group stage, but currently with their struggles and injuries they might finish in that 15-18 range. There are still 2 draws, one for the initial knockout and then again for the RO16. In terms of seeding it's still likely very beneficial to finish 1st or 2nd, but there's also no regional protection for the RO16... so let's say Liverpool get the 1 seed, and City end up a 17 seed and get drawn against Benfica (15 seed) and City win that tie... they could then be drawn against Liverpool in the RO16. So that element of fortune is still in play.
I think seeding out of the first stage influences how many shares you accrue, which means more money from the competition. So winning as many times as you can is beneficial to the bottom line. This is probably why Slot keeps running out essentially full strength lineups. The financial benefits are there if you win.
Yes, another important element... I was thinking only about on-pitch competition, but the money is better too. Good point.
I watched a couple of RB Leipzig games when we were seriously looking at him, and was not impressed (probably could find those posts if I went digging). Body language between he and the rest of the team was off... was very glad at the time we decided not to go with him and that appears to have been borne out.
Arsenal again fail to capitalize on a Liverpool draw... Chelsea should probably cut into the lead, though.
City vs. United. So difficult. I really want both of them to get nothing. Even a point each is too many.
Mason Mount - boy..... did we ever got lucky in avoiding that dud of a purchase. 12 mins before injury.
