70% of Portuguese fans don't want Ronaldo in starting lineup against Switzerland in the last-16, according to Portuguese newspaper poll 'This is no CR7; it's CR37'.
Not quite sure about the NL, it always seemed to me that the teams never took it seriously. The coaches may have used them to tinker with the team tactics and try things out.
With all due respect to KR and JP, this is about their level. We just didn't take any of these opponents seriously enough. Didn't spend nearly enough time preparing in any sense. Since Flick is terminal for 2024 and we will be short of Euro opponents, let's hope we can get an XI together and arrange some friendlies against Brazil and some of the Asian teams (China next time - let's hope not?) we seem to struggle against. We should have been playing Morocco or Croatia. We'll never know if Flick would've gotten it together in time to beat either of them. Personally it wouldn't feel any better if we got caught out in R16, QF, SF or the final with the crap we pulled this tournament.
The 1/4 finals are huge match ups - I think round of 16 the big teams are getting rid of all the smaller teams that slipped into the round of 16 . Seems no real surprises for the last 8 . Pity about Japan though !!! From what I can see England will have the first real test against France .. for both teams we will see how good they are really . Possible one of the finalist . Also think Spain is not really that good . Portugal will struggle against Switzerland but between these 4 teams we will get one finalist .I think it will be France or England Argentina brasil should make another good semis . I would rather have a south American-teams win then one of those European teams .
From what I gather reading these posts, it looks like the only Europeans everyone would be fine with winning the World Cup are the Netherlands and Portugal, either one of which have never won it before. I'm on the same boat.
Spain highlights from the first half vs Morocco Not a single shot on target… pic.twitter.com/27pIbyLWyf— Jordan Meyer (@JordanMeyer1994) December 6, 2022
Spain’s problem is that they focus too much on the collective so their youth development system doesn’t produce any special individuals in attack. They simply can’t score goals.
Spain has barely any CFs anwyhere in youth too. They just train technically good players but that's it. Good at passing, long balls, 1st touch, most dribbling rarely happens in final third. Olmo was rubbish vs Germany, constantly backpassing never going solo. from GS it was clear would be shocking if they win anything.
If both teams in our group get knocked out in the Round of 16, it will make our elimination even more embarrassing than it already is.
not watching but like yesterday will tune in if it goes to PK just to have a good laugh. Morocco is last non-Europe/South America
