Won’t it be like in your youth, Don? You should be well-weathered and tough!
(Actually, I hate cold windy wet games, and I’ve been pretty glad we hardly had to deal with that during the time of the Apple deal.)

Do you not remember the cup game the Quakes played in Elk Grove? 40 degrees with a Wind-chill factor thrown in for extra measure? Coldest damn game I've ever attended in person and i had thermals on!!

I was there, 12/26/93. Second coldest game in Bills history. :)

I don’t remember that, but I was referring to our games during the Apple deal, which means just the last 2 years.
In the last 2 years, I realized I hardly ever had to use 4 blankets, my gloves, my beanie, and my heavy ski parka.

Hey, I still have my quakes pin from the Great Deluge at Buck Shaw. I was yelling at hubby, “Abandon Ship!” But he insisted we watch the entire game. That was the worst soaking I ever got at a game anywhere.

Well one game that was close was a Thanksgiving USC vs Notre Dame football game. USC sucked that year but we managed to soundly trounce Notre Dame in a horrible pouring rain. Back in the days when LA had rain.

Maybe with more “rain” games at Pay Pal the roof finally gets finished.

You seem to be a grass guy (no, not *that* kind of grass!) - would finishing the roof be a significant factor at all in the health of the grass? We seem to have so much trouble with the field, even with the "holy" roof.

I think the Quakes used the grass as an excuse to not finish the roof, and used the Red Bull Arena experience as justification. RBA had to bring in grow lights to help their grass. When this was first news I did some research on the amount of sunlight cities get, and from what I remember San Jose receives about 25% more sunlight than whatever city I found closest to RBA ‘s location.
Probably every Premier League stadium has more roof than Pay Pal and their grass always looks perfect, and I would guess San Jose gets more sunlight than every PL stadium. They do what is necessary to make sure the playing surfaces are immaculate, I doubt it be too much trouble for the Quakes to do so as well.

By comparison to any other MLS city, San Jose and the entire Bay Area, has to have the best weather.

Other than today/now, one day in September or October and another last week after washing my car, this current storm is the only rain San Jose has had since I believe early spring.

Going back to the fall -spring schedule issue, San Jose will not be affected by the winter weather.

Chris Leitch replacement? Bruce and Ernst Tanner would probably get along well...

MLS executive who built a powerhouse faced allegations of sexist, racist and homophobic behavior

Current San Jose Earthquakes head coach Bruce Arena was also at the center of a league investigation during his time at the New England Revolution in 2023. Arena was first placed on administrative leave by the league after allegations of “insensitive language” were made, reportedly by his own coaching staff. He eventually resigned and never publicly addressed specifics of the situation, citing “legal restrictions.”

This Guardian article by Pablo Maurer is absolutely blood-curdling. That MLS says the investigation was inconclusive when there are so many witness statements... Yikes. Reeks of the NWSL scandal.

And very disturbing to me is that this Union exec, Ernst Tanner, in 2023 called referee Nima Saghafi a fa**ot to his face from the sideline below me at a Quakes game. Article says many fans near the bench heard this. This guy has got to go. We should all write Garber and our own front office and ask that they take a stand.

Bielsa is falling on the sword, but I'm not sure what he's saying here.

"We clearly played our team with players who play more frequently against players who don't play as frequently in the United States, and the differences were what you saw."

What does this even mean? Is he saying he played guys who were gassed while the US starters (about 5 from MLS, and some in the playoffs) were fully rested?

Anyway, awful quiet in the "Fire Poch" camp right now.

Great, dramatic goals in that Scotland win over Denmark that clinched a WC berth for them for the first time in 28 years.

The TSS podcast has a Scottish member who went to the game and made an 11-min video of his experience and reactions for the Patreon. His joy literally makes u cry with him.

Looking forward to seeing the VC - LAFC game. I want VC to send Cherundolo out of MLS a loser one more time.

Lafc's midfield has been horrible. Haven't been able to control anything.

Bye Bye Cherundolo. Bye Bye Bouanga and Son (until next year). Two missed PK's in a row by LAFC - Son off the post (the Great Men giveth and they taketh away) and Delgado's ridiculous chip 10 feet over the bar.

What really sealed it was that, even up one and then two players, LA spent over 30 minutes not scoring. They'd lost all confidence by the time PKs rolled around. Still, a pretty exciting game for a quarter-final.

So glad Vancouver prevailed. I wouldn't have been able to stomach the 24/7 paeans to LAFC and Son the whole week.

And Cherundolo, ever gracious in defeat:

[Alexander Abnos] Steve Cherundolo says that given some time to reflect, LAFC players & staff will realize "we lost this one, and Vancouver didn't win."
