I know they're saying record sales for yesterday's game, but the attendance looked about the same as last year's Levi's game. We think we may never attend another Quakes game at Levi's; what an effort it is to go there. And the food looks pretty bad. Used to be the club area had some healthy options, but now it's just regular concession stand stuff, same as PPP. Altho i walked out into the concourse and got a crab Sammie sandwich that was pricey but very good. Also, amazing to read today that the WNBA Golden State Valkyries have sold out every home game in their inaugural season, 18k per game.
Well, Bay FC did not get close to 18k -- i think 11-12k per game. i guess even the Quakes at PPP started off with a full house on paper. But a friend of mine said she went to a Valkyries game and had a great time (but got COVID for the first time!). I can't say I've ever had a great time at PPP, the atmosphere has always been slightly above moribund.
The attendance was about the same as last year's Chivas game. It was significantly more than any of the previous LAFC games. This was the first LAFC game with regular ticket sales in the third level, as opposed to just the LAFC supporters section.
I thought that there were only about 200 people in the 3rd level, other than the LAFC supporters section. So not earth shaking!
They should do a drone show and just create drone images of Carlos Vela scoring repeatedly against the Quakes, and then somehow represent him turning down a contract from us, like a big contract paper with a Quakes logo, and Carlos Vela doing a finger wag.
I was thinking more that the Quakes should do something similar for Wondo… They haven’t done anything on that scale, have they? My memory is so bad…
Notice "Carlos Vela and the Latin American communities of Los Angeles". Trying to get one last squeeze out of that turnip.
Good question. They did make a big deal of his last game, complete with Wondo scoring, and I think the team hoisted him up and then he did a full stadium walkabout and wave. But I can't remember a "Wondo day" after that. I'm still waiting for the statue.
I think LAFC not only has already won all the Latin American communities of LA, they’ve also won the Korean communities, plus probably other Asian groups as well.
LA is a big place with millions of people who don’t give a crap about MLS, and of the few who do at least a sizable plurality are Galaxy fans. The rest are Vela, Gareth Bale or Son fanboys. LAFC’s only bona fide fans, as far as I can tell, are refugees of Chivas USA. And we know what a rare breed those are.
When i went to the LAFC game at BMO this year, i was struck by the huge % of fans who were Hispanic and the huge number of “tailgaters” (but without cars), and almost everybody was wearing LAFC gear. The important thing is that the people who do give a crap about MLS are at LAFC games and having a great time. The Quakes are pathetic compared to LAFC fans. If anyone is a shadow of Chivas USA, it is us.
Vela was their ticket to the Mexican-American community. Maybe many of them have stuck around. I do have the perception that LAFC has more Mexican-American fans than LAG. I guess it was kind of like what Fernando Valenzuela was to the Dodgers. I don't know how many of the Korean community will stick around when Son is gone. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Inter Miami's fanbase when Messi leaves. They will have the new stadium, so that'll help. But no longer being born on 3rd base and thinking you hit a triple because you have the GOAT on your team and he brings in his friends to play with him for cheap. Oh no!! Wah!! "It's not fair!!"
Quakes fans are not “pathetic”. We support a perennial loser. Year after year. I will put my fandom up against any single LAFC fan who has been gifted a spare-no-expense perpetual winner. What is pathetic is a supposed Quakes fan dissing fellow Quakes fans in their own forum.
From Reddit, 7/20/25: LAFC fans throwing beers at the referees in the aftermath of El Tráfico https://www.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/1m50iru/lafc_fans_throwing_beers_at_the_referees_in_the/
Oops, sorry I meant the Quakes are pathetic, not the Qualkes fans. That’s why the reference in the subsequent sentence was to Chivas USA. But as long as I am a Quakes STH, I reserve the right to call myself a Quakes fan, even if I’m an unhappy one. I’m pretty sure I am putting more money into this team than 80% of the people on this forum. And actually, my Quakes Sales Rep has been really good to us this year. So my big issue is Fisher, not the players, not my fellow fans, not the FO (except maybe Leitch), and not even the current coach.
Not sure if you misconstrued the intent of the post willfully (i.e. to make a point) or by not reading carefully, but I knew what she meant, and the Quakes are pathetic compared to almost any metric I can think of. Quakes fans may be great, but their number is declining every single year - and that is something that is quite evident when looking at any televised home game.
I go to 90% of the games. I don’t think the number of fans at the games is declining. Feels pretty constant to me, with little swells up and down. I’d say this year is up a little. Last year was probably down a little which is not surprising given how bad we were. The Almeyda year(s) when we had Chofis was probably another little swell. Ironically we’ve barely been better at home this year vs. last year. We don’t have any more home wins than last year so far and we’ve got just 2 more chances to exceed that.
She said “the Quakes [unstated noun] are pathetic compared to LAFC fans.” Did she mean our team or its fans? Since she compared us to LAFC fans I inferred she meant we fans. That’s the proper reading, unless she was absurdly comparing apples and oranges. I gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Thanks clarifying. Everyone’s issue is Fisher. But the next owner could relocate the team, so try to enjoy the ride while you can.
