lol, who wants Ronaldo? he was ass a few weeks ago in the Asian CL semifinal, got shut down by a 20 year old CB and is a big reason Al Nassr didn't qualify for the next edition of the CWC.
Gianni needs Ronaldo to sell tickets for the CWC. They are using dynamic pricing and demand is so low that prices are falling.
I think you are right. Infantino wants to create a buzz and sell jerseys. There are a few clubs interested in signing CR7 but none from MLS. Cristiano Ronaldo evaluates his next destination: Clubs interested in the Portuguese star
It was him or Hernan Lopez, as I recall. Quakes got the better of that deal. Vela can go golfing with Gareth Bale now.
The Quakes will get the better of the deal when Lopez is transferred and the club gets a profit......if there is any....
Looks like The Mad Viking's time is up in St. Louis. I suppose they could be on a new coach bump when we see them on the weekend. https://bsky.app/profile/tombogert.bsky.social/post/3lq6v6tyfzk2n

Hernán had 6g, 2a for us last year in 1800 minutes. Vela signed with LAFC last September and was no unfit and useless they never played him in any MLS minutes. Correction he played 4 minutes at the end of playoff game, and committed a foul, and that's it. From LAFC fan on reddit, about Vela 2024: "One appearance, 5 minutes. Looked like he hadn’t been on the pitch in a year for those 5 minutes. Team probably could have subbed on a random fan and got similar production."
Total Soccer Show said that the STL FO picked this guy out of hundreds of possible candidates by algorithm. They were looking for a style of play without any MLS experience because the algorithm said over the long term, MLS experience didn’t matter. Of course, TSS pointed out that it does matter in the short term.
Maybe using AI to pick your next coach is not the best choice. The odd thing is that St. Louis burst out of the gate their first year playing high press, and The Mad Viking was a low block and counter guy. Is that really the style they wanted? Maybe when the results for high press went south they decided to abandon it, but they probably should have stayed with it.
I’m sort of shocked. You and xbhaskerx are sort of our resident analytics folks - figured you’d be all over that!
Analytics could be part of the deal, but there's a lot more to consider. And it seems that, if they wanted to use analytics / AI to find the right tactical fit, they solved for the wrong tactics.
