It would have been unthinkable, conditioned on the assumption that the doping ban would still be in effect. Now that it has been shortened, MLS seems like a logical destination except that he'd be a very risky signing based on his injury history and inconsistent motivation. His market value is at rock bottom, perhaps so damaged at this point that he would have to consider playing in San Jose lol.
I knew then his ban was going to be reduced. I even posted that it would be at that time. Pogba would go to NY , LA , Miami or even the Saudi league before he will ever come to San Jose.
The Saudi league is probably the most logical destination if anything. One thing that is crystal clear is that Pogba loves money, plus he's Muslim and the league has national team colleagues like Benzema and Kanté, and other French citizens like Aubameyang, Mendy, Koulibaly, and Mahrez. I guess MLS would make sense in that he Pogba seemingly has an affinity for American culture and his brother (not the one who allegedly blackmailed him) played here for a while.
Are you sure his brother played in MLS? This is what I read online… No, none of Paul Pogba's brothers have played in the MLS: Florentin Pogba Paul's twin brother plays as a defender for R.E. Virton in Belgium. Mathias Pogba Paul's younger brother played for lower-tier teams in Europe. He was detained in 2022 in connection with an alleged blackmail plot against Paul. In June 2024, French prosecutors called for Mathias to face trial on kidnap charges.
Thanks! I wonder why that link said none of his brothers played in MLS. Looking it up, he must not have been any good as he didn't last too long...
Go back and re-read my post.... After proofreading because it was late night, I re-edited. You posted too soon!
These were real players! Vintage British Football picture... 1930s pic of Ted Drake of Arsenal being carried off the pitch unconscious , they brought him back round and sent him back out ,where Ted went on to score 3 goals ...
Owners dont crae enough to change, they've been relativley the same since there inception. It was just time to change coaches and a new coat of paint.
They didn't really do anything roster construction wise to improve the product they originally had which was good out the gate. They were very complacent and coasting on the hope that Driussi could carry the team without giving him a proper cast of characters to work with. Once the league and teams figured out Austins play style, it was easy to mark and beat them out of games.
Sorry but that's not what happened, it's as simple as "regression to the mean" The main problem in Austin was that they sucked a**... but they did get really really lucky one year By any meaningful metric, Austin FC were a below average MLS team under the 4 years of Wolff, and for most, well below average. Despite making the playoffs in year 2, Austin FC had the 4th fewest pts/game. pic.twitter.com/K8OQymGqJ1— Los Nerdes Verdes (@LosNerdesVerdes) October 8, 2024
Inter Miami, LA Galaxy, LAFC and Columbus could be trading trophies the next half decade if they continue to highly ambitious. New York Red Bull could easily compete with them, if they pull their testicles out and flex there financial power. Breaking @ColumbusCrew are in talks to sign midfielder Paul Pogba once his contract ends at @juventusfc There aren’t many details as of now but check out this full report by @SupporterSupply (not officiated with CSC)#crew96 https://t.co/tCLIyKWCfi pic.twitter.com/1PzyWkUM7r— Cora martinez-Cortez (@CortezThe3rd) October 8, 2024

Has this guy made an appearance recently with his djembe? As I always say, easy to start, not so easy to maintain for years afterwards.
He does regularly attend games and we'll have no criticism of the guy who went from crap romcoms to "he does not miss" (at least from 2011-14)... if only the Quakes were capable of such a turnaround. Austin didn't start well? They have been bad for four years, but in the third year they got really lucky and outperformed how awful they were by a crazy amount. Sort of like St Louis last year in their inaugural season when they were also bad but got gifted like a dozen goals in the first half of the season.
From my perspective they're still "starting", and I think their 2nd year was their "magic year". We're on our 27th year I think, with a relocation in the middle and countless crap years. We'll see how enthusiastic he is about the green suit and the djembe if he has to endure anything even remotely like that.
Quakes are 0-4 against St. Louis all-time. It took four years for Austin to beat the Quakes the one time they did.
