Yes, in fact The San Jose Clash were the first MLS team to do a big International Tour. We called in quite a number of guest players. Guys Calloway wanted for 1997. Roster Players: Dave Salzwedel, Tom Liner, John Doyle, Tayt Ianni, Oscar Draguicevich, Ben Iroha, Tim Martin, Jeff Baicher, Eddie Lewis, Ramiro Corrales, Ryhshiem Henderson, Derrick Brownell, Rafael Amaya, Paul Bravo Guest Players: Abel Resino, Cle Kooiman, Adrian Paz, Chris Henderson, Curt Onalfo, Bernd Schuster. Troy Dayak, Michael Emenalo, Altimont Butler, Eric Wynalda, Missael Espinoza didn't participate in the tour.
Bernd Schuster in 1997 was already 37 and turning 38 that December after the season ended. The way Schuster used to play, he probably would have gone all out so it may have been a lot for him at his age. Then again, as a defender in those early days of MLS and the Clash, I'm sure he will have excelled alongside John Doyle. The only thing I can think of on why he didn't sign was because the offer was too low. He retired right after this tour though.
There will be no late #MLS move for Richie Ledezma, per sources. As previously reported, there was interest from several clubs including LAFC, Portland Timbers, San Jose and others. However, Ledezma is planning to stay and fight for long-term PSV role. #USMNT #ElTri pic.twitter.com/XSlFIEuC5a— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) August 14, 2024
I always thought he was a pretty dirty player. Of course, Doyle had his own patented "forearm to the back of the neck of the player going for a header" so he was no slouch there, either.
Of course you could have had Dema Kovalenko, too - that way Dema could sweep (and break) the leg while Doyle could give the guy a concussion...

Sophia Smith was offside but since she stopped trying to play the ball and didn't get in any defender's way they allowed Swanson, who was onside at the pass to play and finish the shot
I think it's debatable. Watch the Brazilian defender in the middle when the ball is played. She angled her run to the inside of Sophia Smith and away from Swanson because she assumed Sophia is in play (it's not the defender's responsibility to know who is offside and who is not in the middle of a play). So I would say that Smith definitely impacted the defense's ability to make a play. Would she have been able to stop the goal? Maybe. She could have taken a better angle and cut out the shooting angle a bit. Sophia Smith didn't pull out of the play until the very last minute.

For sure but I am so sick of seeing all the stars going to NY , LA or Miami. You wonder if these guys ever saw a globe. Honestly , after you’ve seen Hollywood , Manhattan and Miami Beach once or twice, how is it supposed to be that great? I think Garber & Co. should place restrictions on how many stars can go to those clubs.
You will be happy to learn that in response to your concerns Garber & Co have implemented a "Designated Player Rule" with each club allowed a maximum of three
tbf Reus is the first global household name on the current iteration of the Galaxy roster. (OK, Cáceres sorta but he's old and not making a ton) it totally makes sense for these guys to go to LA or Miami given the standings and city environments. Do you expect them to prefer Cincinnati or Kansas City?
