MLS has always had a bit of an identity crisis. Are they a soccer league that's more like most intl leagues or are they an "Ameican sports league". We only have to go back to the beginnings of MLS. No ties! Can't have ties! Playoffs! Gotta have playoffs! Playoffs are fine - they're exciting, everyone likes them, they make money for the league. But that doesn't mean we can't also consider the team(s) that proved themselves to be the best over the course of the season, with the biggest sample size.

Philly and LAFC were neck and neck in the Supporter's Shield (same points) and neck and neck in the final. Philly played LAFC very tough on the road in the final. I'm not going to conclude that Philly was a massive failure while LAFC was a massive success because a ball hit Gareth Bale's nose and went into the net in extra time stoppage, and then they won on PKs.

That's David Beckham? Looks more like David Bowie.

Of course it's Bowie, and Lou Reed. Supposed to be funny.

OK, got it. I don't know what Lou Reed looks like, or Fabio Capello, so... sue me for not being sufficiently immersed in 80's pop culture! :)

Lou Reed is more 60s/70s and was never, ever pop.

I would say that his career spanned multiple decades, and FYI "pop culture" refers to a much broader spectrum than "pop music".

You just said you weren't familiar with him in your prior comment and now speak with familiarity on it. Once again, the famed JJ inability to ever admit to any misstatement no matter how small rears its head. Arguing for the sake of arguing is not something I care to participate in.

I googled him before I wrote "80's pop culture" so that I knew that my comment could apply to both Bowie and Reed. So sue me.

I admitted that I missed the joke - bad me(!), and will do the requisite 50 pushups, if that makes you happy :).

    :ROFLMAO:

I thought you were a music guy, @JazzyJ?

Are you really not familiar with the how influential Bowie and Reed were?

More familiar with Bowie than Reed, by l was too busy studying the music of John Coltrane and Miles Davis to pay too much attention to these guys.

Raise a finger if you were there that time at the superdraft in Kansas City when they tried to award the shield to the fans representing the GaLAxy, but the trophy got broken in someone's suitcase.

And then we had a Q&A with Don Garber.

South America has some regionalized leagues that rely on playoffs.

The guy on the left in that tweet is Lou Reed? All these years, I assumed Lou Reed was black.

You probably shouldn't, because except for a brief period in HS/college, i pretty much only listened to classical music.
Nowawadays I don't listen to music at all, due to my mild hearing loss.

David Bowie wrote a song about Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground in 1971, Queen B*tch which can be classified as glam rock and perhaps one of the first punk songs (probably no coincidence the New York Dolls formed that same year)... he then performed it alongside "the king of New York" for Bowie's 50th birthday at Madison Square Garden in 1997
