MLS and US Soccer are aligned with USADA (and WADA by extension), so presumably the league would be in gross violation of its own policies were they to go after Pogba.
FIFA may be able to show their strength and suspend Pogba for a short period of time, but they cannot legally place a 4-year ban on a player who wants to apply his trade in the USA. I don't think it’s legal even by international law. Hypothetically, if an MLS club wanted to take a chance and sign him, I can easily see a judge allowing him to play and FIFA can't do anything about it. There are players and coaches who committed worse crimes who are still applying their trade in the sport. I'm surprised no one remembers how Liga MX giant Chivas. suspended our lovely Eduardo "La Chofis" Lopez, for his alleged involvement of committing a sexual abuse crime against a female. Matias Almeyda even expedited his work visa so he was allowed to play for the Quakes in MLS in 2021-22 and Chofis thanked the Quakes for taking a chance on him. . I don’t know if he was ever convicted in Mexico or not or if they just let him go to the Quakes to let things cool down. Either way, since leaving the Quakes he is now back in Mexico playing with Pachuca. I don’t see how sexual assault would be a lesser crime than abusing drugs but if Chofis was in fact guilty of it, by comparison, he should also be banned for multiple years In 2011 Amantino Mancini as convicted and sentenced to 2 years and 8 months after being found guilty of rape from a Brazilian woman, following an incident at a party held by Ronaldinho in December 2010. He was still playing in Brazil until 2016 and then got his coaching badge at Coverciano , outside of Florence after that. As far as I know, he was never suspended nor did he serve any jail time. In the USA anyway, people with worse records can work and I’m sure any judge could easily rule on Pogba’s right to earn a living and apply his trade in the USA. Again, if an MLS club were to take a chance and sign him, I honestly don’t think there is anything either FIFA, UEFA , Concacaf or anyone else can do much about it. At 31, he is still 6 years younger than the leagues coveted fan boy and could potentially play another 4 seasons before turning 35. Pogba would be an asset to many clubs in the league.
Basically, in September, Pogba was suspended from playing for failing a drug test. They said he used a non-endogenous testosterone metabolites was found in his test results following a match against Udinese on 20 August. The drugs test was confirmed to be failed on 6 October 2023 after another sample was found to have also had non-endogenous testosterone metabolites present in his system. On 29 February 2024 he received a four-year ban for doping, with the option to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
I can see why doping would be considered a more serious offense to a sporting governing body, due to its potential to disrupt competitive advantage. Not saying four years is fair, though, under the circumstances.
This is my point. A 4-year ban is way too excessive. I’m not a lawyer but I am sure a judge could easily rule and allow the ban to be reduced and have said player, apply his trade. I still don’t believe how FIFA, UEFA, or anyone else can block it. Again, if an MLS club were to take a chance on him, I'm sure he could still play and get his ban reduced. In other news.... Just finished watching Godoy Cruz lose to Colo Colo 1-0. GC officially out of the Copa Libertadores. Maybe GC was waiting to see if they qualified to the group stages and now that they didn't Hernán Lopez (if we're even going for him still) will be sold?
I saw a lot of Pogba over his 154 appearances for Manchester United, from 2016 to 2022. One of the most frustrating players I’ve ever watched, never came close to living up to the hype. Having said that, if he came here he’d be a massive upgrade.
That is true, at Man United Pogba didn’t really come into his groove. When he was at Juventus though, he was a world class superstar.
According to the Guardian, Pogba was taking DHEA, which is available Over-the-Counter in the USA. But why someone in their early 30s needs DHEA is kinda weird.
Just because something is "available over the counter" does not mean it won't make you fail a drug test.
There is certainly debate on whether the use of drugs is really an offense worth any kind of persecution, but there is no debate on whether sexual assault is.
Exactly but Pogba was or is banned for 4 years and Chofis only punishment was being loaned out to the Quakes for a year and a 1/2.
Chofis was at a party where one of his teammates sexually assaulted a female. It was never alleged that he sexually abused the female as well.
I believe he was involved and seriously doubt he was "shipped" to the Quakes because he was an innocent angel. Just like how he conveniently was jumped at the airport and got his passport stolen and thus couldn't come back to the Quakes. Give me a break...
I wasn't there but I doubt Chofis would have been suspended if he didn't do anything wrong. This is all I saw online about it.
