They weren't bunkering... they were slowing the game down and playing man to man. We allowed the bunker in how we played and we could have opened them up if we were more tactically capable.
Regardless, it wasn't "Total Football", it was fairly reactive. We were trying to play the more positive game - much more possession, etc., but of course failed. Like I said, reminded me of a Quakes game, down to the possession w/o final product, failure to pick up midfield runners, and especially down to the lousy corner kicks. Pulisic's corners are very much like Espinoza's. No one's going to score off of those.
Dave Tepper, owner of Carolina Panthers & Charlotte FC, had a real estate company that declared bankruptcy and did not build the $800M practice facility it promised, but still took in $21M of public funds. Looks like he has agreed to give the money back. But such a good example of why such deals provide welfare for billionaires more than provide public good. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...tigation-for-possible-misuse-of-public-funds/
Timbers sign a one named Brazilian mid fielder as a designated player. I was curious what Timbers and Sounders were going to do in their off seasons. Looks like Timbers are trying to push forward. Meanwhile Seattle lost their very well respected GM and haven't made any signings yet (probably they will pray their starting 11 returns healthy next year - which I think will be a mistake for them). https://www.timbers.com/news/timbers-sign-brazilian-international-evander-as-designated-player
Columbus Crew set to hire Wilfried Nancy as head coach That's gotta be considered a big loss for Club de Foot. I like seeing MLS getting more competitive by going after each others assets. Good for everyone except for the owners who have to pay more to hold on to good people.
Oof, rough day for @Scott Rohde's boy "Shaqira". I was actually rooting for him and the Swiss - maybe that was the problem :-(.
Saputo was an idiot not to keep Nancy, but Saputo making bad decisions isn't exactly uncharted territory. I would say I hope Nancy finds success in Columbus, but I can't, in good conscience, wish success upon anything in the state of Ohio. It was fun to see a Montreal team compete. They were easily the most interesting team to watch in 2022. I expect they'll be circling the drain again in 2023.
There's a guy at our Sunday pickup game that is literally all of 5 feet tall but that guy will NOT go down. And I've tried!!
Thornton is regarded as one of the top tier GK coaches. He gets to work with Brady now. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2022/1...-thornton-back-with-team-coaching-goalkeepers
I always liked Zach Thornton, especially the way he could kick a ball so hard and so far, like Bernardez
I'll find the video interview Brian Mullan had in 2005 with us on the Quakes Weekly Webisodes. He said Thronton kicked the ball so hard it made him pee his pants when it hit his gut in MLS Cup 03.
Which is quite impressive considering that Brian Mullan didn’t wear his pants again until after the game was over. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
