It was great goal by Bale at the end of OT. I still don't understand why Chiellini or Bale were signed. Giorgio, didn't even get in the game. Anyway, it was a good win by LAFC. The Quakes should sign John McCarthy.
yeah, never mind it was a clutch goal by @don gagliardi's favorite player, but it also has to make makes every USMNT fan a little nervous as we approach 11/21. watching Man Utd vs Aston Villa now. I wish I could record the game with Peacock...woke up to AV scoring their second off a nice FK. Luke Shaw just pulled one back though at the halftime buzzer, off a lucky deflection. Remember when Aston Villa came to Spartan Stadium? I remember that game but none of the details.
Quakes tied Aston Villa, 1-1, 1997. Clash can build on Villa (sfgate.com) "On a mild, breezy Tuesday night, the San Jose Clash showed they could play with one of England's best, tying Aston Villa, 1-1, in an exhibition game in front of 13,522 fans at Spartan Stadium as part of the 100-day long Britain Meets the Bay celebration. Although His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York, greeted players and coaches before the game and later viewed the match from a luxury suite, Clash fans were probably more interested in the long-awaited debut of Mexican striker Daniel Guzman." Both Doyle and Wynalda were out injured for this one.
Curt Onalfo, Tayt Ianni and Dave Salzwedel were also out hurt this game according to the announcers. Tom Liner played the best game of his career this game. He had 19 saves. The whole pre-game was fantastic. If anyone wants to see the whole procession let me know.
Sunday, November 6, 2022 MLS Cup's unexpected hero: John McCarthy stifles his hometown team in LAFC's victory by Scott French
Wasn’t that the game when Prince Andrew rode onto the field in a Rolls? Wonder if there were any underage girls in the back….
I don't remember the Rolls but he's a disgrace. I remember some buzz around who was sitting behind us in the "luxury box." I thought it was the FIFA boss but apparently it was Prince Andrew. Good game for the Clash.
Ben Olsen named new Houston Dynamo head coach Not exactly an inspiring choice. I wonder if the pendulum on "MLS experienced" coaches has now swung to far to the other side? Hopefully Houston continues to suck as always.
I can’t believe Pat Onstad did this. I’ve always thought onstad was a smart good guy. But after firing Tab Ramos and Paulo Nagamura so quickly, and now hiring Ben Olsen, I’m thinking Pat must be over his head as a GM.
OTOH, Sam Stejskal tweeted this. Maybe this is a big reason they hired Ben Olsen — they plan to emulate FCD? (And of course, we hired Luchi for probably similar reasons) Olsen, of course, did make the playoffs in six of his 10 seasons as head coach. Only right to point that out.Not totally related, but I absolutely cannot get over this paragraph from Houston's press release announcing the hire. Lots going on in here. pic.twitter.com/QejzsEt916— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 8, 2022

that elusive first-ever win in Portland might have to wait until 2026 although we have Luchi now, so you never know.
I remember a trainer heading a ball sailing out of play, back into the field and everyone in the stands behind him giving him a cheer
I remember at Spartan Stadium, a ball came at a woman in one of the lower rows, and she headed it back into the field while still sitting in her seat. Everybody cheered.
There have been a handful of times when I've trapped a ball on my thigh or chest and passed it back to the player coming off to throw it in. Don't know that I ever got any cheers, though!
I've been watching the last round of European league games this weekend before the World Cup break. Depending the year , teams and players involved, some World Cup tournaments can take their toll on important players. I'm thinking this upcoming WC played in the middle of an important season could affect certain players a great deal. This makes me wonder how the 2026 MLS season will suffer as they will need to take a break midway through the campaign.
Thing is, that's always been the case for MLS until this year. In fact, this will be the first FIFA World Cup that'll take place during MLS's offseason (both because this World Cup was pushed to November due to Qatar's brutally hot summer and because MLS thusly played its final one month earlier than usual) and during most other leagues' season. In the past, it's always been the other way around and will be again in 2026. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Did somebody say 2026? Can’t wait! Quakes will get a nice little mid season break on their way to mls cup glory, and the World Cup will be here!
San Francisco 49ers Set To Buy English Premier League Soccer Team, Leeds United, in $400 Million Deal
The league though as a rule and/or since 1996, usually played through most WC tournaments. I recall Eric Wynalda played the Wednesday night after the USA was eliminated from France in 1998. I recall him poiting to the ref that he needed glasses. Also, LAndy had played in a quarterfinal for the USMNT against Germany on Friday June 21st, 2002. I can’t remember though if he played for the Quakes the next day on Saturday, June 22, 2002 or if it was the following week. Either way, back then, the league didn’t take a WC break.
