It’s occurring to me that pretty soon we will be going to Quakes games solely to see the stars of the other teams. Kinda like the old old Warriors…
That's never been the case for me... never ever! Not even in the early days of the Earthquakes and Sharks when their advertisements mainly annoyingly consisted of "COME WATCH SUCH & SUCH STARS FROM THE VISITING TEAM (oh, and come watch the Earthquakes/Sharks as well)". My sports allegiance has always been to my teams first (as seen in my current tagline) over any individual players! GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Now FS2 is showing Real Madrid vs. Club America. They are playing at Oracle Park in San Francisco. Local referee is Joe Dickerson a friend of my cousin. He went to Bellarmine and does a lot of MLS games.. Karim Benzema scores! 1-1 so far!
Considering their playing at a baseball stadium it doesn't look half bad. Makes me wish there was a good soccer specific stadium in SF.
I always wonder how they place the grass in the baseball infield. Is it grown somehwere else and stored?
Cheeky Lioness Been watching the women's Euro 22 Championships. Host England into the Final after dispatching Sweden 4-0. Highlight is this backheel goal by England striker Allesia Russo. Sweden's 39 year old goalie could have done better, but, nice nevertheless.
We brought our neice to last night's Forward Madison game against Union Omaha. Bonus - first female ref we've seen! New attendance record (4,659), so the little stadium was rocking - the supporters section is always full and raucus. A lot of the players are college-aged kids, and they also have a couple of interesting foreign players. This was the beginning of the second half, so a lot of the supporters were still lined up at the beer stand!!! We're in the "luxury" row - at the top of the stadium in real chairs - with arms and a steel girder (i.e. bar) in front.
Believe me - you don't need to 'introduce' Joe - everybody around here knows him! He puts on a monthly referee clinic for the San Jose Soccer Referee Assn.
I am not sure how much $300k will help any USL or MLS team for winning the U.S. Open Cup but I'm thinking a birth in the CONCACAF Champions League, depending on the matchups would be fairly lucrative for future club revenues.
Although, depending if they end up winning, the most Sacramento can hope for is hosting a game against a Mexican team.
