Hey fellow referees, whaddya think, this should have been a yellow, or maybe it should have been a red?

Oops, I meant the local Blockbuster here in the South Bay. Sorry about the confusion.

To date, I've never had the opportunity to step foot anywhere on the Eastern Hemisphere. :(

I think that seat is reserved for Judson.

Brings up an interesting question: who’s been the Quakes best Brazilian player? Judson, Andre Luis, Giovanni,...? I may be missing someone from the early days. Yes I know there was Campos and Silva and Eduardo also but they’re not going to be it :).

    You forgot Vega! :D
We had some skinny midfielder who gave up a PK when someone kicked the ball into his arm at Buck Shaw. Can’t remember his name, but he was probably the most talented of this list, other than Judson. I guess that makes Judson our best Brazilian so far?

Edit: and i think the guy i’m thinking of was also bald…

Remembering today the Grande Torino historic football team of Torino Football Club in the 1940s. The club were five-time champions of Italy, whose players were the backbone of the Italian national team and died on the 4th May 1949 in the plane crash known as the Superga air disaster.

Vega is Argentinian. I did forget Lima though, the “1st Lima”. He was a d-mid who was actually very good. I think he joined in 2008 and played for just that year.

I believe he is indigenous Argentinian - his twitter handle is indiovega, and I think his nickname is "El Indio".

A red for what? I thought a yellow was plenty. If a coach feels they want to handle the ball and jaw at a player who is playing the game a foot from them, all the while pissed off because his team is losing (let's not lose sight of the coach's ongoing temper tantrum at the time), I think the ref didn't even strictly have to give a yellow. They were both a bit unsporting. If a player did the same to a coach who was minding his business, then a yellow seems obvious.

I was thinking that a red card could be given for “striking or attempt to strike”. But definitely a yellow for unsporting by the player.

But, he wasn't striking or attempting to strike. Striking would have been launching the ball and hitting the coach, attempting to strike would have been launching the ball at the coach but missing him.

I've met him, and he's a dick of the first magnitude. Reminds me of Bruce Arena but less cuddly...

He usually has about one good season with each of his clubs before he loses the plot and the locker room. Hope Roma can get some mileage while the car still smells new.

For me it is Judson...not even close.... but Francisco Lima was very good for the Quakes in 2008. He only played one season...he was in his mid 30s, but was pure class... he played for Roma 3-4 years prior to joining the Quakes...really smooth sharp player...he hit some of the longest most accurate diagonal passes to the weakside I've ever seen. Really high end vision and technical ability.

The way I’ve always heard it discussed is that attempting to strike is just that — an attempt. Doesn’t matter if it’s a wild swing and a miss or if it’s just a pump fake. And strike means striking with anything — hand, foot, ball, object, etc.
