Lol, first you said he touched his right foot, now you say he touched his left foot. And your still pictures don't prove squat. Watching the slow motion replay there is no indication Messi touched him, and even if he did graze him it was so inconsequential that it did not throw Koulibaly off his stride, he was able to firmly plant his left foot and kick through Messi.

Who cares and what's the difference if its left or right? For that matter, how is it inconsequential?

If he touched his foot before he got the ball
, per FIFA rules, that is always a foul.

Let's get our board referees to chime in...

@TyffaneeSue If the player touches the other one before getting the ball , isn't that a foul in any league?

Yeah, "if", and from the video replay there was not enough evidence to prove that.
You lost this one, Falvo. Perhaps you should go back to your eurosnob forum and apologize on behalf of MLS and the Quakes.:)

Again, I can care less about Napoli other than Gattuso because he is a fellow Calabrese but the rules are what they are and I still don't see how its so one sided. The initial point is or was, its not a clear pk either way. Even the VAR doesn't prove it.

Messi's chest trap ball that was called back for supposedly rolling off his arm was more of a goal than this pk was...

I never mentioned Napoli or Gattuso so why are you bringing it up? Unless you really do care? And the fact that you need to mention a geographic connection to Gattuso is further evidence of your motive here.

Huh? I was mostly kidding because Gattuso is from Calabria and the Calabresi always have a bad reputation in Italy.

He is a good guy though but honestly I haven’t liked or cared for Napoli since a Maradona played for them 30 years ago...

PK or not, they will have never beaten Messi and a Barcelona in the end. If anything the ref was making up for the missed Messi chest trap goal he called back. There is no reason that shouldn't have been a valid goal because he never touched it.

Hubby and I watched this play several times and thought the PK was unfair. We felt Messi had no chance at getting the ball and jumped to put his foot in front of the defender while the defender was starting to take his swing.

Just as I thought. It looked to me like the ref was making up for the other Messi goal called back that seemed valid. Thanks for your insight....

Lol, the fact that he got his foot in between the ball and the defender's foot shows he had a good chance of getting the ball .And it wasn't like his foot was two feet from the ball, it was right at it. Is there some rule that states you can't steal the ball if the player is "starting to take his swing"? That was a deft move by Messi, and VAR shows it was a clear penalty.

Nashville beat Dallas tonight 1-0 on a deflection. They still have two games to play to catch up to others in the standings. Dallas has 4 points now, Quakes have 8.
This was a good result; if Dallas were to beat Nashville in all three meetings, it would move them to the top of the Western Conference.
Winning the next two would put Dallas above San Jose and Seattle, while a win and a tie would create a 3-way tie for Seattle, Quakes and Dallas in positions 5-7, just above the playoff line.

    But in other news #whatdoyouexpectfromTexas:
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...s-they-booed-players-who-knelt-during-anthem/
A limited number of fans who were allowed to attend a game in Texas for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic shut down MLS booed as FC Dallas and Nashville players knelt during the playing of the national anthem, a response that disgusted Reggie Cannon.

“I think it was disgusting. I think it was absolutely disgusting. You got fans booing you for people taking a stand for what they believe in when millions of other people support this cause and we discussed with every other team and the league what we’re going to do and we’ve got fans booing us in our own stadium,” Cannon said. “How disgraceful is that? Honestly, for lack of a better word, it p----- me off. …

“You can’t even have support from your own fans in your own stadium. It’s baffling to me.”

With MLS restarting the season in local markets and crowd-size regulations varying from place to place, just over 5,000 fans were allowed to attend the match at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Tex., and 3,000 were present for Dallas’s 1-0 loss.

Holy crap! What is wrong with people?!

And it's not just one or two players kneeling, it's all of both teams and the refs, and usually the coaches on the sidelines. What a bunch of racist tools!

    Go Quakesfans!!
    Go Humans!!

We interpreted this as Messi endangering himself. He came from behind with no chance at controlling the ball, and he threw himself in front of the player who is taking his swing. The defender did not take away Messi's chance at a shot on goal, and it's not a foul if the player endangers himself.

Messi has his foot in front of the kicking leg of the defender when it is still on the ground before the backswing. He has no idea if the defender is going to take another touch or try to clear it. For that reason he is not endangering himself. And what do you mean he had no chance of controlling it? If Koulibaly hadn't kicked him off his feet, Messi's next touch likely would have had him turning on goal.
It's fine if you want to feel sorry for the defender because he had no idea Messi was about to pick his pocket, and he didn't intend to foul him, but, intent doesn't come into the equation here.
And this was all karma, because it helped Barca through to face Bayern and be humiliated today.:)

So much for Messi now after 2-8 loss..

I heard his family were looking for homes in Milan.

If it happened, either AC Milan or Inter , there would be another cool derby with CR7’s Juve!

Wow Barca losing 8-2 yo Bayern is a total disgrace. I’ve seen many 7-1 wins but never seen a team score 8 goals in the finals of a Champions League!
