I hope they get a true Roman Ranieri as the coach of the NT.

Juventus will probably make a move for him if that happens.

Hes been sacked. Ruthless decision but after missing out on 2 WC's, a 3-0 loss on your first game of qualifying wasnt going to go down well. If Ranieri wasnt a director I think he could have been called again. First he saved Roma, then he saved Italian football. It would already be written and he can finally retire.

All the harm he did to Totti has been repaid with this deserved humiliation and embarrassment.

What harm did Spalletti cause Totti exactly?

He was 40 going on 41 years of age and never played in his last season of 2016-17.

The management already made the decision and gave him another final, $1 million dollar contract to show up in that last season and Spalletti left for Inter right after that point so how was it his fault?

I mean Roma could have blown another $1 million dollar contract to have him sit on the bench in 2017-2018 but what good will have come from it?

I personally feel that Spalletti is an OK manager. He normally does pretty decently but I've always felt his teams have been a bit vulnerable defensively and often does not have a Plan B if Plan A doesn't work.

The main reason he failed with the National Team is because Clubs and National Teams are different, and you cannot be as precise and disciplined tactically with a national team as much as a club. This is because with a club they train daily and its a much longer season, etc. If you are too tactical with a national team, they won't have the time to truly understand the tactics during the important games, and it'll leave the players completely confused. In other words, being very tactical takes time for the players to adapt and execute well, and national teams basically do not have that kind of time as they don't play together anywhere near as often as clubs. This was also one of the reasons for the failure of Giampiero Ventura, although I never had much faith in him as a coach anyways; and wouldn't say I'd be confident he'd do any better with a club.

This is also the reason Ranieri failed with Greece, and this honestly did concern me about taking him on as our coach.

Ranieri had exactly 12 training days in Greece.

He didn't have enough time to assess the players or the league.

Of course he was set up for failure.

He won the EPL the very next year though with a second tier side so I'm sure he will have been a good CT if give the right amount of time and players.
