Griezmann is more of a SS-type than someone who can lead the line. Both Coman and Griezmann would work better off a player who at least has some 9-like qualities. They both rely on their pace a lot.

Indeed I think this was a soft and lucky win. Im in no way afraid of meeting this France in the later stages

Agree to disagree. I'd prefer Griezmann as a false 9 than playing Giroud.

Yeah; a better team going forward than Romania would've punished and sliced through France's performance today.

Well yeah. I'd prefer that to Giroud as well, but when you have someone like Martial who both provides some 9-like qualities and can combine with a wider range of movement and pace, you don't really need a false 9 setup IMO.

This tourney feels ripe for a dark horse (Portugal?) to come in and win. None of the favorites look all that convincing heading in.

This game reminded me of the first Brazil game with dubious ref calls in favor of the hosts who get away with a lucky yet not convincing win. If France make it far they are in for a Brazil with this defense. You heard it here first

Who'd service them though ? Griezmann and Martial both are more counter attacking players and none of the starters in midfield is a particularly good provider of passes for them. Cabaye should probably be in there to provide a better balance, but Pogba, Kante and Matuidi are three box-2-box players. Adding two counter attacking players on top just isn't a good idea, especially since Payet likes to recieve the ball in the attacking third as well and isn't a Ballverteiler strategist either.

I'm not sure where Deschamps wants to go with this team. It kinda looks like he fields the individually best players at the expense of a coherent idea of how to play and win. The panel on German TV made that point and I thought it was pretty spot on for a change.

Honestly I thought France offensively looked great and have young fast players to beat anyone..

They did look shakey at the back but I think they'll tighten up over time.

And TBH there's no complete team in this tournament.. Germany have so many holes as well and I can see them struggle at some point down the road.

I think France has a higher attacking potential then Germany right now..

Our fullbacks non existent, our midfield are soft as poo, we have no striker and we don't have Reus or Klose this time

Why do you put yourself through such a ritual cleansing of any shred of optimism any time you cheer for a team? Yes, our FBs are crappy; so are France's. You think Evra or Sagna had a good game today? Yes, our striker is crappy; so is France's. Giroud had a very Gomez-esque performance. Yes, our midfield struggles in the Kroos-Khedira double pivot, and there you just have to trust that Loew can adjust. I think our midfield, given the right combination, is better than France's. We have young and fast attackers as well. Chill.

No I don't think our attackers are as athletic or as fast as France's..

Muller is not a sprinter, Gotze hasn't played a lot of minutes, they lost Reus, etc etc

I did say no team is special this year but I don't feel great about Germany either.

On the other hand I was full of confidence in 2012 and look how that turned out

And yet they're more productive and experienced. If we need speed, we have Sane and Schuerrle. Plus, as long as Giroud starts, I think our lineup actually has the edge in athleticism.

The Swiss come out guns blazing, already up 1-0 after 5 mins. Schär connects off a corner kick.
