Lionel Messi now set to LEAVE Barcelona after fresh contract talks break down Messi became a free agent this summer after his original deal with Barca expired, though was set to re-sign with the club ...
He recently bought a house in Miami, wouldn't shock me if MLS offered him an asinine amount of money. But I'd be surprised if La Liga doesn't step in and figure out a way for Barca to fund him. The marketability of that league is going to tank without him.
I thought there was just a report yesterday or day before that La Liga was going to disperse money to Barca (and rest of league) essentially for that purpose but now they're saying its not enough because they can't move the traitor Pjanic
Apparently Aguero is now trying to back out of his deal with Barca. Barca honestly should probably let him if money is that much of an issue.
If PSG sells 10 players to pay Messi's contract, will Leo help that much? PSG put 10 players up for sale to fund Lionel Messi transfer
There are reports UEFA will replace Financial Fair Play with a salary cap and luxury tax, limiting their wage bill to 70 per cent of revenue https://t.co/bECy1BAVqS #UEFA #FCIM #CFC #PSG #FCBarcelona— Football Italia (@footballitalia) August 12, 2021
I've always believed luxury taxes in sports are just about the best compromise between reigning in spending differences but still allowing certain teams/owners to go all out for a a year or two to win. The thing about hard caps that always bother me is that I truly believe if an owner wants to spend their whole fortune on a team to win before they die or something, they should be able to. The desire/willingness to win should never be fully blunted the way it is by hard salary caps. If you really want to win and are willing to pay whatever the luxury tax is (penalty increases the longer you're over the cap and the more you're over the cap), then more power to you. There should also be a salary floor as a percentage of revenue as well though.
But it depends over how long any wage-revenue ratio is measured. The existing FFP break-even rule for example is measured over three years.
Pretty much what I’ve been asking for since FFP inception, La Liga have already started going down this path this summer. It may end up screwing us even worse than FFP depending on how it’s implemented since our salaries are so high, but overall it’s a better direction for the sport.
Trabzonspor defeated Molde on penatlies in the third qualifying round this evening so we will play them in the playoff round.
There's an insane rumor coming out of Spain that Real Madrid are looking into breaking away from La Liga. With intentions of joining another league like the Premier League or Serie A. I would normally not even bother with those kinds of rumors, but after the last year nothing surprises me at this point. They've since denied it, but so did everyone leading up the the Super League.
Sounds like Barca may be even worse off than thought. Their last president deferred a ton of payments, including salaries. They still owe Messi 52 million, and are 1.3 billion in debt Their wages still are 103% of their revenue even after losing Messi and getting players to take cuts.
They should have sold him last season or the year before when they could have made a profit off of him.
