Well I haven't been paying too much attention because a. I graduated and b. I'm not in Philadelphia. But I'm with Al Bagnoli in being "flattered" that we were picked second in the Ivy in the preseason media poll, because I think we're gonna be pretty bad (at least by our standards, in which fourth is something close to inexcusable).
Yeah, but your team gets actual attention from the media, unlike mine, where most of the people who care these days are either in the band or the student newspaper... or used to be.
the phils go from sellers to buyers huh? jamie moyer, jose hernandez and jeff conine? the latter's "been there, done that" when it comes to the postseason and the WS, hernie's a versatile player (infield/outfield, switch hitter), and the former has a 20 year career ... can you say veterans? yowzah! and they're only ONE GAME behind in the NL wildcard. regardless of whether history repeats itself, and the phils once again don't make it to the postseason, i'll admit that things are getting exciting.
and how about the big man, ryan howard, belting #48 last night ... tying michael jack (phil's single season record) and leading the MLB?! plus a league leading 125 RBIs. with how many games left? MVP candidate right there.
i was there, it was an extraordinary shot -- right out to center and off the facade of the upper deck. a shot like that at CBP ends up in the parking lot -- center field at RFK is 410 feet and that's if you believe the signs (which a lot of people say underestimate the distanecs). http://www.phillyist.com/archives/2006/08/30/howards_jack_ti.php
bullpen is the black cloud hanging over this city ... howard and utley are at least the silver lining. bad bad bad game. oooh, let's intentionally walk the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. oops, game tying double. whew, up by one in the 10th. not so fast, what was that crappy play at the plate all about?!
would you rather pitch to Soriano with a base open?? how about ryan howard doing his best ballerina impression trying to make a play.
not me personally, no. how about letting me vent some frustration on them blowing a game that should've been a sure win. can't make a legitimate push for the wildcard if you're letting a team with a worse record beat you in late (and extra) innings.
Our bullpen will be a factor in not allowing us to make the playoffs. But right now I'm reeeeeeeally looking forward to tomorrow...season-opner, baby! Let's Go State!
tee-ohh who? it's still very early to determine, but stallworth gives me some good vibes (if at least only on my fantasy football team).
Who was hyping us for this season? We started out ranked 19th and it's not like we received much national media coverage. This team is pretty young and will get better as the season goes on.
hopefully he has a better day this week. a win against the giants is a bit more legit than a victory against the texans
