With the Paris olympics coming up, France has been trying their darnedest to get the Seine cleaned up, installing new equipment to keep the massive amounts of fecal matter typically draining into it from doing so.
    https://apnews.com/article/paris-ol...ater-quality-75e6602670914634d639260434303e10

But, the frenchies really love a protest, and are starting a "poop in the Seine" protest because so much money is being spent on the games while people exist in the world who are poor.
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/parisians-plan-poop-seine-river-230029302.html

Water quality issues will see the triathlon and open water swimming events modified (triathlon to duathlon), moved, or canceled altogether.

Apropos of nothing - I was once nearly flooded away by the Loire in Blois. Damned Campsite was too close to the river.... Some thunderstorm that one was.... rained all night and rose the river - But it held off just long enough for us to cook our sausage and peppers omelette, drink our fruity Loire wine and tidy up the picnic.... That was nice of the weather really ....

I didn’t know mental gymnastics and denial was now an Olympic sport.

    * Steven van de Velde, Dutch beach volleyball player
    * Convicted in 2016 of raping a 12yo British girl
    * Sentenced to 4 years
    * Had traveled to Britain knowing exactly how old she was
    * He served 12 months in a British prison and was then sent back to the Netherlands to complete his sentence
    * Where he was released after 1(!) month.

Some of the highlights of the Dutch Olympic Committee’s response:

    * “Steven is NOT a peadophile [sic]; you really don’t think that de Dutch NOC would send someone to Paris who IS a real risk? No, he isn’t a risk.”

    * “Van de Velde has fully engaged with all requirements and has met all the stringent risk assessment thresholds, checks and due diligence. Experts have stated that there is no risk of recidivism. Van de Velde has consistently remained transparent about the case which he refers to as the most significant misstep of his life. He deeply regrets the consequences of his actions for those involved. He has been open about the personal transformation he has undergone as a result.”

    * “We are taking measures to make sure that everybody can focus on sports, on the Games. Not the story of the past of this beach volleyballer, who has played on all the international tournaments since 2018.”

I think they should cancel the mental gymnastics and denial events and award the Dutch the gold, silver and bronze plus several used pre-teen underwear catalogues, sticky pages and all.

I’m a rugby fan but have never watched 7s.

Damn the France/Fuji game is entertaining!

Antoine Dupont -the greatest XV rugby player in the world- proves he's also the greatest VII rugby player in the world... What an absolute legend !

Don’t know if he’s the greatest 7s player in the world. There are a few Fijians, South Africans and Australians who might disagree. Madison Levi just might be the best 7s player at the moment. DuPont is probably the greatest 15s player at the moment, however.

The final was a very good game, but thought the Ireland/Fiji QF was a better game.

Maybe. But the impact he had on the French team from the moment he joined it earlier this year is phenomenal.

Which is a low bar because until this gold, France has never done anything in rugby world 7s.

(I edited my post above before you quoted it).

Well... he elevated a below-average team to the top of the world... that's quite an achievement.

True, but still not the best 7s player in the world. He’s good, no doubting, but certainly not the best.

I think it was just a parenthesis for him btw - I doubt he will regularly play with them again in the future.

I bet he'd have prefered to win the RWC in that very same stadium last year for sure. But still - he had the balls to try the 7s game while playing (and winning) with Stade Toulousain, and he succeeded more than expected. Kuddos to him.
