Game, set, match. Might as well put the bench players on the field tonight and let them get some valuable experience against the Evil Empire under their belts, because apparently our big names can't do shit.
That was so depressing. I hate when idiots like Utley go and tie the game and provide hope. How could I forget that Lidge was pitching? I mean, it's not like Damon was down to his last strike in the inning or anything, or Peter Happy forgot to play. Obviously, he was busy signing autographs or gettin' some in the dugout.
I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of children in third-world countries who think the Rays won the WS last year, the Cardinals won Super Bowl XLIII, the Red Wings won the '09 Stanley Cup, etc etc etc. I'm going to move to whatever country they donate these t-shirts to, so I can live in an alternate universe where my 2009 Philadelphia Phillies are the first NL team to repeat as World Series champions since the Big Red Machine.
I feel sorry for those kids, because now they will think that the Phillies won 2 World Series...and they might become fans of them. What a lifetime of disappointment they will have...
it amazes me that the "loser" shirts never show up on eBay or anything. I would think there would be a good market for official merchandise for the losing team. Unless there is some sort of copyright law that prevents the donated shirts from being sold outside of the third-world countries.
I just got off the phone with reality, it said read the thread title and reminded me that I lived in Philly. One title per generation.
lifetime of dissapointment with one bright spot LONG ago? how is that different from the people that live in this area?
there can be no question all this hope mongering that occured the last few weeks is exactly why our team is playing like a scared poodle.
We were born into this sporting poverty. It's just the way it is for us. Those third world kids had all the opportunities you could ask for to become successful Yankees, Patriots, Lakers, and Man United fans.
In high school, I had a St. Louis Cardinals World Champions 1985 shirt. BTW, my wife got a shower gift of a red and white jumper for our first child that said: ST. LOUIS CARDINALS American League on it. I'm sure some lovely co-worker picked that up at TJ Maxx for $1.50.
i'd say its more like the yankees decided to take 7 innings off in order to win in back in their own stadium. the last two innings were merely to make us philly fans believe another epic collapse was coming.
They want to win in front of this creep before he joins the 2009 departed list. So they took it easy on us, but scored a few runs at the end to send a message. We lose 15-1 in Game 6 and find out George Steinbrenner is the Messiah.
He dies after the last pitch and the entire stadium sees his body taken to heaven by a chorus of angels.
