Can argue that Ronaldo’s adaptability gives him the edge. Messi needs an entire team built solely around him with players that have specific skill sets. It’s the reason why good players (dembele, griezman, arda turan, Coutinho, aguero, tevez, higuain) look so mid/bad playing with him. They get forced to adapt to how he plays.

In summary, yes he is the best individual player ever, but how he plays does come with negatives to the team. Hence only being able to muster 3 champions leagues in his entire career as the “goat”.

 

to me it shows what a waste Portugal was in 2024 and 2026 they were the only team that had the players to beat Spain. But they did not win their group and faced Spain too early. They also foolishly did not bring on Ramos after he saved them against Croatia.

Portugal had a lot of defensive issues but Spain had to respect their midfield and not press them as much as others. Hopefully the 2030 team is even better but such a wasted opportunity to make a final.

The reality is Messi did so much more with so much less than Ronaldo since 2020.

Yes Portugal are much better in basically every position. Ramos is also equivalent to Julian Alvarez. The fact that they have failed to score in knock outs in 2020/22/24/26 is really down to one man.. their striker Ronaldo...such a waste. For me they can win euro 2028 if he stays home.
