If it went down as described it sounds more like an indictment of the team than the fans. If I was a supporters group member, spent my hard earned $ to go to every game and cheer my ass off but the players completely blew us off, game after game, I would be royally pissed as well. It’s inexcusable for the players to not show their appreciation especially since we fans pay their exorbitant salaries.
Why does it change the math? We have 19 pts, they have 21, both of us have played 14 matches. Regardless of opponent or location if they lose and we win we pass them in the standings.
Yeah the Miami team came off as a bunch of entitled Primadonna’s in that MLS documentary series on Apple TV, so I would not be surprised at all to find out that they’re being jerks to their fans.
Reminds me of when Donovan had sunglasses thrown at him when he was taking a corner kick in Mexico. He picked them up, put them on, and looked cool as hell.
Cincinnati Enquirer Barlow scores at the death for FC Cincinnati to earn 3-3 draw I watched the game recap on Saturday night, and the late drama which saw each team score deep into injury time for the 3 - 3 draw. And I watched it again today with an eye on the clock, to see how long it took FCC to equalize after they fell behind 3 - 2 . . . it’s about 11 or 12 seconds that elapse from the kickoff to their 3rd goal. So this reminded me of a goal the Galaxy once scored in Kansas City, which took even less time I think than this one on Saturday. In the 2002 playoffs, the Galaxy played at KC and fell behind 3 - 0 midway through the 2nd half. I think Preki had scored for KC, and Tony Meola had come upfield to join the celebration . . . and on the ensuing kickoff, Chris Albright received the short kickoff pass and hammered it from the midfield circle over Meola’s head as he walked back to his goal. I’m not sure Meola even saw the ball fly overhead — he just picked up the ball from his own goal and wondered what the hell had happened. I think it ended 3 - 1, but that’s the only time I remember ever seeing this work, when a player shoots from the kickoff and scores. Now the kickoff rule has changed and the first touch no longer has to go forward of the midfield stripe, and I don’t think players shoot from the kickoff anymore.
Easiest team to hate from top to bottom; now supporters acting like they did something to grow the culture and their ranks besides watch the FO sign Messi, when I remember many of the legacy SGs were priced out of their season tickets.
I had to look this up to watch it which led me to this: https://www.lagalaxy.com/news/top-five-best-la-galaxy-goals-you-ve-never-seen-galaxythrowback . Based on your description I was thinking Meola was out around the top of the penalty area but he was actually inside the 6 yard box just a couple steps from the goal line when the ball flies into the net...pretty hilarious!
no shade on Alex Ruiz because he is great but we had it so good reporting wise back then Adam Serrano, and a View from the sidelines with Andra Canales and Luis Bueno and not everything was behind a paywall or "journalist" sucking up to teams because they fear losing access. on another note I was trying to find the right name of the soccer blogs but search engines are terrible nowadays, I couldn't find what I was looking for and the other day I went looking for something via google and the first two links recommend I clicked on were scam links, this timeline sucks edit: seems Adam is now CEO of some baseball holdings company in the bay area and Andrea I believe now works for a Philly paper and Luis went into doing marathons and soccer reffing, last I checked a few years ago
LOL! You are throwing shade against Josh and his guest hosts on COG. Did you not know Adam was a long time employee of both Spectrum Sportsnet, the local broadcaster before Apple, and the Galaxy themselves. Did you ever hear him be critical of the Galaxy?
oops I forgot about COG was focused on trying to remember the old reporters, I enjoy Kevin Baxter, l enjoy his gruffness, Sophie meh but I think its the whole Arse/Tottenham dynamic, Josh does say he has to tippy toe around things to avoid being restricted but at least he is honest about it, which is rare these days and I love his dedication since CoG is not his main gig
Andrea Canales was a big LD defender, which always endeared her to me. She was so eloquent on his behalf.
I don’t know. Is it nice to be acknowledged by the team? Sure, but I don’t need to be validated. Validation is putting in effort for 90 minutes every game. I compare that to other fan protests around the league, years of poor management/ownership, moving the team, supporting or failing to denounce certain activities. In most instances other supporters groups unite around the protesting fan group. Here we have Miami fans who after three games (3!) decide their feelings are hurt because the players don’t come and wave at them. Skipping a game is one of the most impactful actions a supporters’ group can take and these clowns used it on a small issue after almost no time at all. Though ironically I didn’t know they were boycotting until it was mentioned. On the broadcast I didn’t really not a discernible difference in the atmosphere.
I think that two groups (Miami Fans and Miami Players) can both be petulant children and in the wrong....
NSH, VAN and SJE are the clear class of the league. All have +19 -> +22 goal differentials. (Next highest is CHI at +11.)
now 3-2 as one of Skydog's favorites, puts it in the back of the net, I'll be disappointed if the combine score isn't in double digits
