In terms of SS - We beat HOU: We get 2nd in SS and all playoff games are at home except a possible Final vs MIA. We draw HOU: We get 2nd in SS unless CLB wins out* and then we get 3rd. We lose to HOU: We get 2nd if neither LB and LAFC win out*, 3rd if one of them wins out and 4th if they both do. (Note that even though a CLB win and a draw would tie us on pts, we would still beat them on the first tiebreaker - # of wins.) *CLB and LAFC are both big favorites to win out. CLB plays #26 NE and @#15 NYRB each of whom has only one win in their last five games. Same with LAFC. They play @#14 VAN and #29 SJ who combined have a total of 1 win in their last 10 games. tl;dr - If we beat HOU we get 2nd, if we draw we likely get 3rd, and if we lose we likely get 4th. So, IMPORTANT GAME!
He definitely had to go. The team looked like it had lost hope under his leadership. And yes, he was a jerk last night. He should have been criticizing his dirty player and apologizing to Vanney and Puig.
Definitely. I suppose the pressure of knowing he was fired if he didn’t finish strong, and having Precourt as a boss might have something to do with his jerk attitude—toxic work environment and all that. Still, some people show their true character when put in that sort of crucible (in a in a good way).
That's kinda sad, yes its my nostalgia creeping in because I respect him for his National Team tenure (he was instrumental in that very very first Dos a Cero). But as a coach. Glad we got him fired.
Just checked the 2024 rules, and Goals Scored is the 4th tie-breaker, which we would win. SO - if we only lose by 1 goal and LAFC only won by 1 goal in each game, then we would still advance. But seems unlikely that if LAFC wins those two games that they wouldn't win by at least 2 goals in one of them. So best bet is to get a result against Houston.
Yup. Although I wanna finish second in the league and ahead of Columbus, so we still need some points....
If LAFC ties Vancouver or loses. We could clinch the West without even playing. they're tied. Baby Berhalter tied the game for us for Vancouver.
Full credit, that last goal from LAFC was a banger, Vancouver defense on that looked like us, though, no pressuring the goalscorer
Vancouver should have won that game 3-0. But lose it 2-1. Columbus won as well so we are probably gonna have to get a result in Houston to finish first in the west and 2nd in the Supporter Shield.
FYI If we Win or Draw we win the West anyway. Otherwise LAFC needs to win and we need to lose to tie. then: 1. Total number of wins per match Would be even 2. Goal Differential (GD) per match (Goals For per match minus Goals Against per match) Currently our goal difference is higher by 2, so if we lose by 1 and they win by 1 it would be tied, so any difference greater than that LAFC would beat us. 3. Goals For (GF) per match We would win this hands down. LAFC would have to make up 8 goals. For overall SS Standing (matters for MLS Final should we get that far) 1: Miami 2-4 are still our landing spots depending on what we do If we win, we get 2nd no matter what, Columbus is 1 point behind us. 3-4 it depends on LAFC's game and Columbus' game.
Definitely want to finish first for a lot of reasons but the only possible negative is that the away match in the “best of 3” would almost certainly be at Portland or Vancouver and their field turf. I’m kind of wary of Portland in particular.
