Poor RSL - it’s worse than I thought. Their 17-goal Golden Boot leader Chicho Arango left the game in minute 41, distraught, with a tweaked hamstring. So they’ve lost 2 of their best offensive players just as they enter the final homestretch. That is one long-suffering team. We also have been long-suffering through the Klein era. But at least we had 5 MLS titles to help get us through the dark days.
Saw Tottenham win live, watched Galaxy win on my iPad, woke up to learn LAFC was humiliated yet again. That’s pretty much a treble right there.
Three @TheChampions spots locked in. 🔒 pic.twitter.com/Q7pe0FCbzJ— Major League Soccer (@MLS) August 26, 2024 Not to get a head of myself but since LAFC has already qualified, do we quality for CCL if we finish 2nd behind them in the standings?
we watched that game today. It was an excellent competition, with dominance going back and forth. Chicho Arango is just another level, that's all.
Cucho, Chicho, Groucho, Harpo ... I also have trouble keeping them straight. Chico was the RSL player with 17 goals whi just left them for greener pastures. Cucho is the CLB player with 13g + 8a. There are a lot of players scoring like crazy this year - it’s a pretty exciting time for offenses. There are currently 10 players with 20+ goal contributions (g+a) already this season, including Pec & Puig with exactoy 20. Add 5 more players if we include 19 goal contributions. And get this - the other-worldly Messi has 25 goal contributions (12g+13a), which is 4th most in MLS, but in only 11 starts! He truly is playing at a different level than the rest of MLS and arguably, the world.
I don't understand your greener pastures reference to Chicho Arango. As far as I know he tweaked his hamstring. I can't find anything about him being lost for the season or taonsferring. He also has at least 18 months left on his DP contract.
Sorry, I got my players confused as well. RSL lost their other offensive powerhouse Andres Gomez and his 13g+9a to greener pastures. Arango was merely lost temporarily to injury, as you noted.
Miami looks too strong to lose the shield, BUT the first step to the top of the West is already happening. LAFC lost to Houston.
Paging Mike Magee In Columbus v Seattle with no backup keeper on the bench their debut goalkeeper just got red carded.
Thanks to @Stuart95, I learned that the Rapids have signed USMNT defender Reggie Cannon: (https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/colorado-rapids-reportedly-sign-usmnt-defender-reggie-cannon/blt401ef495016a2bb5) Apologies for not embedding Title-text into a hyperlink like he does each day in the MLS News feed,... Something within the article stood out for me: Cannon, 26, joins the squad on a free transfer after abruptly leaving QPR on Aug. 30. He is in an ongoing dispute with Boavista where FIFA has order the American to pay the Portuguese side $1.4 million after unlawfully leaving the club due to unpaid wages. I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than myself about such things can explain why this is even a thing. So he left Boavista unlawfully. Question: as in illegally? And he left because they weren't paying him, yet he has to pay them? Question: if they weren't paying them, why does he owe them anything? Thanks in advance.
The Campeons Cup going on right now between CLB and America is a pretty entertaining game. CLB has a number of very skilled players, not just Cucho. Captain Obvious, I know. But they are fun to watch.
America wins the Campeons Cup in a 7 round shootout after a regulation 1-1 draw. An uncharacteristic boneheaded mistake on CLB part is only reason America scored in regulation: https://www.mlssoccer.com/video/goal-v-davila-vs-clb-68#goal-v-davila-vs-clb-68 And LAFC get the Finals Futility monkey off their back, winning the US Open Cup in extra time, playing against a game, but overmatched, SKC side. Old man Giroud opened LAFC scoring but SKC responded and sent the game into extra time. But in 102nd min Omar Campos scored his first ever LAFC goal which turned out to be the game winner. Now a tired LAFC return to regular season play where they are 0-3-2 in their last five.
RSL looked good against Austin only for Austin to come storming back (we'll have to keep an eye on that when we play them next Saturday) to tie 2-2, Colorado getting blown out by Minnesota. Oh and LAFC clinches a playoff spot with their win over Cincy
Great results other than lafc. A home win just about clinches second and a CCL spot. And 1 more point in our two road games ought to get us the division unless lafc runs the table. Which they could. Only one really tough match left on their schedule. Away at Vancouver during international break. we could be conference champions in one week.
Would have dropped 1 more point if not for the magic of Messi. He scored his 15th goal to go with his 15 assists in only 14 starts! I know he doesn't play for the Galaxy but the man is a soccer god. Check out his quick release guided missle: https://www.espn.com/
Considering our history in Texas, one could say the road game in Texas is going to be tough, too. We have yet to get anything but a Loss in the state of Texas this season. And it looks like the only team that has a shot at the SS other than Miami is Columbus, who has 1 less point than us with 1 game in hand. Still looks like Messi's, I mean Miami's to lose though
