you're aging yourself. I was in junior high when that happened. That game had a profound effect on me as a kid.
Well darn, I was getting ready to fly to Chicago to get married when that game was played. (Apparently I was 9 when I got married....)
Former Houston player Alberth Elis La Panterita received a serious injury last weekend going for a header. He was instantly unconscious recovered a bit and stretchered off the field. At the hospital he was put into an induced coma from which he woke up yesterday. I hope he fully recovers. Crazy stuff.
Man, that's scary. I think there were rumors for a while that we were looking into him this offseason. I hope he recovers completely.
I can picture Taylor going off on a rant again. Hopefully the league listens and takes head injuries seriously. the way he just collapses after heading the ball.....that's not just a one time thing. I hope he looks after his long term health after this.
Sources: San Jose Earthquakes in advanced talks to sign star free agent Carlos Vela.Deal not decided/done yet but could get there soon. Almost definitely would be DP deal.Vela, 35, had 9g/7a in 34 regular season apps (2k mins) last year. LAFC legend. https://t.co/dPyF84zFg5— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) March 1, 2024
It will be weiird if Vela ends up with SJ. Anyone have an idea of who is being unreasonable in the LAFC negotiations? Is LAFC being disloyal to an OG and cheapskating? Or is Vela demanding significantly more than he’s worth?
He wants a DP contract. LAFC doesn't want to give him one. I think LAFC was hoping that no other team would either and then they could get him at TAM level.
My assumption is that Vela does not want to leave the US and probably California, but believes that he can command a DP-level salary. There's a decent chance he is right that he is worth that since he could probably find a LigaMX or MLS team willing to pay him something similar for name value alone. LAFC doesn't believe he is still worth a DP spot to them and they are probably right because they don't need it any longer to attract a fan base and they don't think he is worth it anymore in terms of on-field productivity (including health). So, it's a situation where they both have fair arguments and either San Jose swooped in while LAFC was waiting for Vela to lower his compensation demands or Vela had secured the San Jose bid as leverage to get LAFC to up its offer and, instead, SJ further upped its offer and Vela is realizing that LAFC may not be bluffing.
Thanks to both of you for the answers. San Jose needs a scorer - they've scored 3 goals total in their last 4 games (including preseason). Their defense seems solid, allowing 4 goals total in the same games.
Looking at the games right now, it makes what we did to Miami even more promising. Miami up 3-0 on Orlando
Just watched the game. Ironically, it was like beach soccer by the end because the snow was so deep that you had to tip the ball up to hit it properly. You could see Lloris reconsidering his life choices during the game.
I'm guessing he's rethinking the "cold rainy night in Stoke" phrase to "cold Snowy Night in Salt Lake City"
That first match you know we were on. The real test is consistency. If we can continue playing like that then the change is huge! If we were just a flash in the pan... I'll very disappointed. The Miami thing is real. Look at Orlando, they got taken to the shed today for playing like shit. We used to play like that even if I I am going by a single game so far... and a GLORIOUS it was.
It wasnt a fluke. It was two ~$10 million dollar super speedy wingers. If they stay healthy we will continue to be very good. Our defense is still a question mark but our offense should be fine.
Of course and more Paintsil then the other guy Pec to be sure but what accounts for our drive, for our pace, for our defending and pressing and conditioning? We looked like a organized hungry TEAM. That is much more than the two new guys alone.
I guess. But Miami is old so they are easier to press than quicjer, more mobile teams. We have same coach and same players except new wingers and healthier Fagundez, so I put difference on them. Having dangerous players who give you a chance to score at any minute gives everyone else energy. Also first game, so enthusiasm high.
