Messi’s first 8 or so games for Miami were the best I’ve ever seen from a soccer player. And I’m including all EPL, Barca, etc. He literally changed the game the moment he stepped on the field. Ninety percent of his passes were the perfect decision, executed perfectly. He was putting 30 & 40 yard passes on a platter for shooters. Almost every shot snuck just inside the post. His free kicks were perfect. His dribbling attacks were sublime.

Then around game 9 or 10 (still pre-injury) he went back to “Human Messi.” He was no longer as fresh of mind and body. He became just a very, very good soccer player. No longer a soccer god.

I will always treasure watching the former happen in real time.

So San Diego’s MLS team is San Diego FC … I hope one day we can go back to goofy MLS 1.0 names. Say what you will about the San Diego Loyal it was at least unique.

I think MLS should ban teams from using Football Club. Embrace the American spin - except that god awful shootout thing.

The logo sucks too. Looks like something Midjourney would come up with.

I was wrong. Just saw some logos people did make with Midjourney or DAL-LE3. They were better.

Hell I didn’t even try with the prompt and this is a pretty slick start. Colors would make a pretty nifty kit too. Dark blue, light blue & crimson.

LAA, I do love reading your comments on all things marketing, especially when it’s an epic tale down.

This is what Dalle3 spit out for me with a basic prompt

Are these good logos? Nah, there’s a ton wrong with them, even if you cleaned up the weird AI duplications and nonsense words. It would take a good deal of effort to make this a viable logo. But conceptually it’s a more successful idea than the generic and rather soulless official logo revealed yesterday.

It's simple yet uninteresting. Probably gonna run a couple years then the rebranding of course. Makes this one a collectors item and the new improved one, a money maker. :sneaky: ;)

So it’s bad enough that every club has to be FC, but they put it in the center of the logo. It as if they’re saying “we’re a football club don’t you forget it in-case you didn’t know we existed”. Say what you want about Galaxy logo but at least it doesn’t have to spell out “we play association rules soccer” on it. Nothing says AYSO like incorporating a soccer ball into your logo.

I will say the colors and skeuomorphic rendering are making it worse. In black and white it works better. Perhaps a flat color version will be more successful.

Amusingly enough in black and white the soccer ball is reminiscent of the ChatGPT/OpenAI logo.

For those less than excited about our game tonight (eg, all normal people) you can watch Messi play vs Charlotte at 3pm PST. It is a must win for CLT and despite it being meaningless for MIA Messi still plans to either start or come in as sub.

CLB vs MTL might be a good game as well. MTL needs to win or they are probably out if playoffs, CLB playing for seeding. CLB should win handily since they’ve only lost once in their last 26 home games! But CLB is fun to watch because they are the #1 scoring offense in soccer.

Those seem to be the best early Decision Day games to watch. IMO.

October Messi/Miami not playing like August Messi/Miami. Part of the problem is artificial turf. But also the players minds seemed cluttered - missing easy passes. Messi’s completion rate has dropped from that early unworldly 95% to …. 50%?

Toronto can't win to save their lives. Michael Bradley being subbed out as he says goodbye to his career playing the game.

Lots of drama everywhere in these last matches.

So the East boils down to:

    Revs vs Philly
    Orlando vs Nashille
Columbus vs Atlanta without Thiago Almada (red carded)
Cincy awaits wildcard match Charlotte vs Red Bulls

Kansas City made the playoffs after an even worse start than us. Every team in the West that didn't make the playoffs should be lined up against the wall and given a stern talking-to.

Interesting. Despite all the improvement to Miami after the addition of Messi, they still finished second to last ahead of the only club that makes LA look competent by comparison (TFC)
