I see no reason that the Galaxy would not still be a great team if Bruce were still coach and GM, with the caveat that he was left unfettered by Klein and his cronies. Even saddled with Gerrard and Gio, Bruce still made the playoffs twice (and got good performances from Gio Dos Santos). We're talking a guy who signed Nigel de Jong and Ashley Cole on handshake deals, basically. We might not have won every year, but we'd be a good team every year under Bruce, no doubt.
I should say, I come to the conclusion above with hindsight, BTW. I felt ready to move on from Bruce at the time; ready to join "MLS 3.0" or whatever, start bringing in no-names from Uruguay etc. I've just observed more recently that with the exception of Tata, bringing in a big name from outside hasn't really worked and the best achieving coaches in MLS are still the ones that have experiencing coaching and winning in the US. Saying that, we had arguably the best domestic coach and GM with quite a few years of top level coaching left in the tank (more so than either Sigi or Dom, for example, who I believe are past their primes). Bruce could've has a Sir Alex-like reign here, IMO.
I see the Sounders progressing (it makes me want to vomit). Sounders - Crew would be interesting. But more interesting would be the Revs going and Bruce Arena crushing Seattle hearts all over again. I cannot take a world where there is potential for the Sounders and Seachickens to both win. That would achieve a level of arrogance I do not want to see.
I didn't think Dallas would do it but they lost by the minimum diff on a goal that reminded me of many goals visited upon us. A complete defensive breakdown with their D caught watching the play like a bunch of morons. They had me believing there for a minute. Loons and SKC up next. Whichever one takes it should a better, stronger team to do the deed.
Actually it was a very good pick that got them the goal on the ck. I watched it on slow-mo replay a couple times.
Man, Loons looking good half time. You know Eric Hurtado coming in second half for SKC but they are fighting against the tide. Good luck Vermes. Yell at those fools!
I’m all here for the Minnesota v New England final. Let someone new win a star. I’d love to see Bruce win another. I most want Seattle to not win a third. They have to be favorites to do so though.
LOOONS! dammit. I thought SK would show signs of life but Min shut them down TIGHT! I like it. If they can do that to Seattle I will be indebted to them. GO LOONS!
Adrian Heath deserves so much credit for coming back from the dead at Orlando. They were so bad under him I just assumed he was the problem. But apparently player personnel, front office, etc. also have a lot to do with how your team performs - who'd a thunk it?!
3 - @MNUFC has won their last 3 matches by 3-0 scorelines, equaling the longest streak of wins by 3+ goals in @MLS history, regular season or #MLSCupPlayoffs (Red Bulls 2017 & 2012, Galaxy 2014). Irrepressible. pic.twitter.com/FFxHCxKOx3— OptaJack⚽️ (@OptaJack) December 4, 2020 This is impressive. Heath definitely deserves credit. He's also grown a lot as a coach, I think -- or maybe grown into this league. He's been coaching in the US for more than a decade now and has worked his way up to becoming an achieving coach. I know I'm belaboring the point, but it's become more obvious to me how rare it is that a coach succeeds in this league without that kind of experience.
FT: Crew 1-0 Revs Artur goal, only his second-ever for the club. Crew is in MLS Cup for the third time (2008, 2015). Hope Ema and Zardes get the Cup.
My major takeaway from the game (and season) was that those of us who wanted GBS over Caleb Porter, including myself, were very wrong. The other was Nagbe's overall calming presence for the Crew. Two years ago and before JDS used to play like that.
I find it hard to believe that I am repping you because of Tarbell not in spite of him. He was a train wreck when He was with us in Reno 4 years ago and we were happy to see him go. He has come a long way. The other two were awesome as stated, also.
I was about to come in and say this. I will say that Porter would have asked for Nagbe (now on his way to three mls cups with three different teams). Would we have been able to get that deal done? Doubtful. I have nothing against Porter, but part of me feels like Nagbe is just a winner and an underrated one at that. Credit to both though.
