Looked it up. Beckham’s about 2 yards further away. But Rooney’s way more impressive. EDIT: Ha you just beat me to it.
Agreed. Beck's was a wide open net. Rooney's had to be much more precise as Rowe was much closer to his goal.
Good results around the league for us again yesterday. Portland lost one of their last (!!!) away games Dallas blew a 2 goal lead to tie with Vancouver San Jose beat Houston (which I think I prefer as Houston is closer to us in the standings.)
Believe it or not, we stand second in the entire league on PPG.... Our crappy home performances are being offset by getting results on the road. Plus, other than DTLAFC, all the other teams that started hot have cooled off even more than us and some of the teams that were at the bottom (Portland, San Jose) are charging up the table... I still think the West is gonna be blood bath by the end of the season with a lot of good teams fighting for those home-game playoff spots.
San Jose has been a treat to watch this year. They are a team on the rise. If we don’t lose this weekend I’ll be impressed.
We’ve had a very favorable schedule so far. We haven’t had to play Seattle or LAFC yet; plus you could add Atlanta and DC United too to that list. I have a sinking feeling we’re going to look at our losses to Colorado, New England, and Columbus with chagrin.
LAFC is a juggernaut and a strong team but one potential weakness is their players beyond their top 14 or so. Last night they rotated and played maybe 5 non regular starters and the difference was striking. It was the same earlier in the year in their loss at Vancouver. It may be that a few injuries to key players down the stretch is what undoes lafc.
They could suffer down the stretch. We've seen many times in MLS, that this is when teams start to become who they are. Some teams start to heat up, and some start to cool off. The condensed schedule could exacerbate those trends.
I think that is wishful thinking. LAFC has only 2 losses and have outscored their opponents by 25 goals in only 17 games. Plus this an unusual season - the traditional powers are having down seasons and the Western Conference is unusually weak. The weirdness of this season is evident in the fact that at the halfway point we are in 2nd in MLS in ppg, despite having only one true goal scorer, a mediocre +5 gd and multiple losses to bottom feeders. Now obviously anything can happen in soccer - LAFC could have key injuries that ruin their season. Other teams - including us- could still improve a lot. And there is always flat out bad luck. But when you outscore your opponents by 1.5 goals a game over 17 games you aren’t just on a lucky run. LAFC has proven who they are in 2019 - and that is the best team in the league, by a significant margin. All that being said I hope we crush their dreams multiple times this season. Especially in the playoffs.
Say what you want about Bruce, but he’s 3-1-1 since taking over a dreadful New England and those results come against some decent teams.
Of course it's wishful thinking! I don't think their current form is a fluke, but it would be more statistically exceptional for LAFC to maintain this form throughout the season than it would for them to average out somewhat. My hoping they fall off a cliff is probably a unrealistic, but I expect them to come back to Earth a bit. Of course, I could be wrong: Atlanta maintained their exceptional form all season long and into the post-season in 2018.
I probably shouldn’t mention it but after yesterday’s 6-1 win LAFC have a +34 goal differential after 19 games.
Western conference standings 2-10 are tight. We have a lot of work still to do and a tough schedule ahead.
Good, gooooood...it just means the rubber band of fate will snap back with even more force and their fall will be all the more glorious. Aaaaaaaaaanytime.
Twellman making excuses for all the obviously empty seats at the Coliseum Annex. Such wonderful atmosphere. Friday traffic no excuse because obviously the game is "downtown" so fans could walk to the game or take the train.
Crazy 6 goal first half. ATL scores in first 90 secs, LAFC quickly reels off 4 straight then ATL finishes half with another.
