I know it's just one match, but NY got completely owned by Houston tonight. They're looking a lot like last year's team, but with higher paid players.

And Hou, with that new formation, is looking really good right now. I have always liked Kinnear as a coach and he is doing another great job this year.

Here's an interesting story on the Role McCarty plays for NYRB. I actually think it was stupid of them to go out and get a guy like Cahill when they have so much depth up top. If they were going to go for a DP quality signing, they have a much greater need for a holding midfielder to work with, and split time with McCarty.

LA, by contrast, have a pretty good selection of guys who can fill that role, with Juni and Sarvas being the best two. I would also argue that Arena has done a great job of teaching our guys who play in the central midfield to support the back line (the first third of the season being the horrible exception to that), so maybe it's as much coaching as player selection.

Start the "when does Roger Espinoza leave MLS" countdown.

And kudos to Honduras for showing the world the improvement in CONCACAF soccer. Nice job boys.

(And my singing of CONCACAF praises does not apply to Mexico. Go Japan.)

Why would you want him to leave when we should be holding on to him? And how come he never played this good with KC? He always had bad touches on the ball..

RIP Kirk Urso. I don't know much about him or ever saw him play but I can't help feel like we lost a great human being.

Agreed. I was reading the thread in the Columbus forum, and some of the folks over there were lamenting how hard they were on him as a young player. Overall, I'd say we've got a pretty positive forum here, but let's let this serve as a reminder of the humanity of the guys on our team, and appreciate them all the more.

We are a feeder league. It's reality. For the 5% that are good enough for Europe, they should go. And I mean good Europe. Not the Scandinavian countries or Eastern Europe.

As for how he plays with SKC - I don't know, I haven't seen him enough. But sometimes folks have breakout tourneys. He's one of them.

    9/29 home vs. Seattle
    10/3 home vs. Chivas
    10/21 home vs. Portland
    10/27 away vs. RSL

    Seattle's Remaining Schedule:
    8/8 US Open Cup
    8/11 away vs. Earthquakes
    8/18 home vs. Vancouver
    8/25 away vs. Chivas
    8/30 CCL
    9/2 Away vs. FCD
    9/8 home vs. Chivas
    9/15 away vs. Portland
    9/19 CCL
    9/22 home vs. Earthquakes
    9/29 away vs. Vancouver
    10/7 home vs. Timbers
    10/17 home vs. RSL
    10/21 home vs. FCD
    10/24 CCL
    10/28 away vs. LA

    Chivas's Remaining Schedule:
    8/12 home vs. LA
    8/18 home vs. Colorado

    9/23 away vs. DCU
    9/29 home vs. RSL
    10/3 away vs. Vancouver
    10/7 home vs. FCD
    10/20 home vs. Colorado
    10/28 away vs. FCD

    LA's Remaining Schedule:
    8/12 away vs. Chivas
    8/15 away vs. Columbus
    8/23 CCL
    8/26 home vs. FCD
    8/29 CCL
    9/1 home vs. Vancouver
    9/14 home vs. Colorado
    9/19 CCL
    9/22 home vs. TFC
    9/30 away vs. Colorado
    10/6 home vs. RSL
    10/21 away vs. SJ
    10/25 CCL
    10/28 home vs. Seattle

We have a forgiving schedule minus CCL compared to the other teams. Chivas has a brutal stretch of games against top teams (good for us), Vancouver also has more big games left than us too.

With that said, that October could make or break us.

I am glad that Mexico won since they are members of Concacaf and that Brazil won because they belong to our region.

I wrote this in the Nats thread. I respect Mexico's win, but there's no way in hell I want them to win gold. Hurts too much. I'm a worse person than you.

Also, that final is going to be full of diving. Should be interesting.

Man... I have mixed feelings about this one. I think a strong Mexico is really good for our region... but I hate the gloating Mexican fans on these boards, and I want to beat their senior team SO much...

I had no idea, I just found out that Donovan Ricketts was traded to the Timbers on Aug. 7th. I wish we had first right of refusal on him.

I would love to have also but I think that even with all the players leaving we would not have been able to afford him anyways.

Wow, that's news to me, too! I wish him well, except when he's playing us, of course.
